Quail Cottage: Secluded Waterfront Nature Retreat

Enjoy a peaceful retreat overlooking the Rappahannock River, where quiet and nature take center stage. Although the cottage is accessed by a shared driveway, there are no other homes in sight, offering true privacy and solitude. Wake to birdsong, watch deer graze in nearby fields, and listen for ducks, geese, and eagles along the river. Set on a 200-acre protected nature preserve, Quail Cottage offers walking trails and river access—perfect for guests seeking rest, reflection, and time outdoors.

Built in 2024, the Shenandoah Cottage at Mattaponi Springs sits above the wedding venue and just next door to the golf course. Each king bedroom has its own private bathroom. The common area has a pullout sofa for extra guests, a full kitchen, and dining table. Surrounded by trees and wildlife, this is your refuge from the workweek. The Tobacco Barn

A high-peaked ceiling and exposed-log crossbeams reveal the Tobacco Barn’s past life as a place for hanging tobacco leaves to dry. Now converted to a one-room guest house, it features a front porch swing, cozy fireplace, soapstone floors, a homey sitting area, and a tall, high-post bed. The pressed-tin ceiling and whiskey-barrel sink in the bathroom add to its charm. Pets are allowed and are charged a fee of $25 (first night) and $15 (per ea. add'l night). Maximum two-person occupancy.

Go for a walk in the woods to Beech Creek or explore the quaint town of Ashland just 10 minutes away. A great space to unplug, rest, and get away from it all! Please note that we are not able to accommodate long-term rentals.
