Localização

Saint Ives, Reino Unido

Unique St Ives is the perfect place to relax on holiday, whatever the season. It is steeped in history, having been a centre for tin and copper mining, fishing and in the last century a haven for artists. Whilst the mining has died out the fishing is still part of the local community. St Ives itself has changed relatively little from those bygone days and still has its cobbled streets, clusters of fisherman's cottages huddled together and many quaint old buildings, now housing restaurants and shops.

St Ives is now very upmarket, and has a magical atmosphere because it is so unspoiled, which is why it is easily one of the UK's most popular holiday destinations. St Ives also attracts vast numbers of overseas visitors, possibly making it not only nationally, but internationally, a contender for one of the most popular holiday destinations ever.

St Ives also has some of the most stunningly beautiful scenery in the UK, benefitting from a mild climate, in which palm trees and Mediterranean plants thrive.

Eating Out - St Ives has a huge variety of restaurants, cafes, and pubs all on your doorstep. We have listed some of the better ones in our Apartment Manual. Most serve local produce and, of course, the fish is always fresh.

Cream Tea - You simply cannot holiday in St Ives without tasting one of its scrumptious Cornish cream teas of home made scones, jam and Cornish clotted cream, together with a pot of tea, in one of the cafes - divine.

Shopping - There are plenty of local shops nearby, stocked with local and general produce. A Tesco supermarket is located in Carbis Bay, a 5 minute drive away, or groceries could be ordered online.

Beaches - St Ives is blessed with four of the most stunningly beautiful white sandy beaches in the country, each with its own character. Porthmeor beach is great for surfing, Porthgwidden beach is sheltered, Town beach is on the harbour, and Porthminster beach has plenty of beach activities. All are great for swimming, and all have cafes, shops and public loos. All these beaches are just a stroll away from the apartment.

Watersports - Surfing is very popular in St Ives. Boards and west suits can be hired and there is a surfing school for adults and children on Porthmeor beach. Other activities include Kyaking, SUP, sailing and sea fishing.

Golf - there is a very good Golf Course in Lelant at the West Cornwall Golf Club, which has a challenging 18 hole links course. Lelant is about a 5 minute drive away. There is also a 9 hole course at nearby Treganna Castle in St Ives. Clubs and trolleys can be hired at both courses.

Walks - There are extensive coastal walks, and walks through the ancient Penwith landscape. There's a good local bus service to get you back to base from most walks.

Places to Visit - There are numerous tourist attractions to visit in and around St Ives such as the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Tate Gallery, and a short distance away in Marazion, St Michael's Mount, to name but three.

The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden is the actual home of the late Dame Barbara Hepworth and includes her studio and garden, where she worked until her tragic, untimely death on 20 May 1975 at the age of 72, in an accidental fire. Her sculptures are spectacular, and even her work clothes and sculpture tools re still on display in her studio to this day.

The Tate Gallery holds regular exhibitions, sells books written by, or about, Cornish artists and sculptors and has a good Cafe with panoramic views over St Ives.

St Michael's Mount is an ancient family castle on a small island, full of myth and legend, just off Marazion. Adjoining the castle is a medieval priory, built after the island was given to Benedictine Monks by William the Conqueror, back in the 11th century after his famous victory at the battle of Hastings in 1066. At high tide, take the ferry across to the island, and at low tide you can stroll across the connecting causeway.

Visit the seals - organised boat trips can be taken from St Ives harbour to visit the seals at Godrevy Lighthouse and Seal Island. You'll probably see some dolphins on the way too. Seals frequently visit St Ives harbour, enjoying the public's adoration and attracting quote an audience, a truly delightful sight to see, if you are lucky.

The Arts - St Ives is renowned for its art, with many famous artists and sculptors having lived here in the past. There are still many artists working in St Ives and their studios are worth visiting. There are numerous Art Galleries to browse. There are weekly drop in life classes held at the St Ives School of Painting, on Back Road West, run by an experienced Tutor. Everyone is welcome to go along whether an experienced artist, or absolute beginner. Contact me for details.

Poldark Country - The very successful UK TV series Poldark and Doc Martin were both filmed in Cornwall. The Poldark mining scenes were filmed nearby and you can visit the three mines used in filming - Geavour, Levant and Botallack. Please search the internet for more information about visiting these mines.
St Ives is visited every year by a German TV company, filming scenes from the novels of Rosamund Pilcher in and around the town. The TV series is very popular in Germany.
Some distance away from St Ives is the famous old smugglers inn - Jamaica Inn, located in Bodmin, made famous by the novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier.
There are also many interesting houses and gardens in Cornwall run by the National Trust.

I hope that I have managed to relay enough information to create a picture of St Ives and my lovely stylish apartment, and that this may tempt you into booking my apartment for your very well earned holiday. Why not consider taking a break for your birthday celebration, wedding anniversary celebration, Valentine's Day, Easter, Christmas, New Year or any other anniversary celebration that you have. If you have any questions, or require further information, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

I also host a second apartment in Carbis Bay (about a 5 minute drive from St Ives). If you would like to take a look, please check out 7 Fernhill Apartments, Carbis Bay, St Ives, Cornwall on Airbnb.

Finally, I look forward to having the opportunity of welcoming you to 9 fern lea Court or 7 Fernhill Apartments.
