Built in 2006, our comfy backyard cottage has a vaulted ceiling with skylights, two bedrooms, a loft, living room, one bathroom, a full kitchen and a beautiful patio garden, which is a perfect spot to sit and sip your coffee in the morning. Floors are carpet and stained concrete.
Our cottage space is clean, comfy and very functional for 1-3 people. We can accommodate 6 with prior notice but remember there is only one bathroom. The cottage stands alone in our backyard and has a small private patio which is in close proximity to the neighbors. Our immediate neighborhood is very friendly and quiet, with the exception of the occasional barking dog.

The entire cottage is self contained and for your private use. No sharing necessary!

Outras coisas a ter em conta
Manila is four miles south-west of Arcata and Humboldt State University is a ten minute drive. We are approximately six miles north west of Eureka on Highway 255 (Samoa Blvd). We are situated on a peninsula that runs between the Pacific Ocean and Humboldt Bay. It is a beautiful drive in either direction. The Eureka drive boasts amazing views of Humboldt Bay as you cross over the Samoa Bridge. The drive between Manila and Arcata will afford views of what are known as the "Arcata bottoms". Complete with grazing cattle, sheep and horses, the Mad River Slough and the forested hills that surround Humboldt State University.
If you have time and are so inclined, stop and pull out your binoculars for some raptor or shorebird viewing. You might spy a white-tailed kite, red shouldered hawk, northern harrier, American kestrel, red-tailed hawk or peregrine falcon. There are a wide variety of shorebirds on any given day. Please contact our friend, Rob Fowler for a guided tour: "WELCOME! Fowlerope Birding Tours is a local company based in Humboldt County, California that specializes in guiding birders on custom tours in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties in Northwestern California along the Redwood Coast and other areas in the Golden State."
You can also wander around on your own but please do not stop on Highway 255! Take a side road for birding or sight seeing. I am happy to give directions and supply a map and a field guide. If this is your interest or passion, please also stop at the world famous Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary (it's also a wastewater treatment plant) which sits on the very northern edge of Humboldt Bay and has wonderful trails and birding opportunities. It is a truly fabulous place!
Just across the Highway from our Cottage, the Manila Dunes are expansive and welcoming as you pass through on your way to the beach. From our cottage you can walk (ten minutes), ride your bike, or drive to the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center or the Manila Community Center. Both are gateways to the beach with fairly well marked trails.
A very short walk from the Cottage will bring you to Manila Community Park where you will find a very popular disc golf course, tennis courts, a playground and access to Humboldt Bay.
Our space is suitable for families with an assurance that children are not allowed up to the loft space. There is a pull down ladder and this ladder must not be left down if there are small children!
We will consider allowing one small or medium dog if we see a photo of the dog and know a little bit about your pet. Visitors must agree to clean up after their doggie and they will not be welcome on the beds or furniture. It's nice if you bring your own doggie bed and pets should never be left alone in the cottage unless crated.
Guests must be mindful of their noise level with regard to how it may impact the neighbors. Otherwise, relax and enjoy your stay!
I grew up in the Mojave Desert, in Southern California and have longed to live at the beach ever since. I have arrived! I've lived in Humboldt County (on "The Redwood Coast") for 25 years. I manage a flooring store in Arcata and have two teenage children who are making their way into the world of academia. My fiance, Scott has two entertaining and energetic kids and, together, we have two crazy, young doggies and a bird. We walk in the dunes and on the beach with our dogs as often as possible and absolutely love living on the North Coast.
I work a lot of hours and don't get to travel as much as I would like, but on the other hand, I'm a homebody and love hosting guests here on our property. I enjoy chatting with guests about where they are from and helping them find ways to get the most out of there stay here, on the North Coast of California!
