We are sorry and upset to read this review.
Martine had a severe case of buyers remorse as soon as she arrived at Poppy Hostel. Despite booking a budget, self service room in a 100year+ UNESCO listed house, she expected a room in a fully booked hotel.
We tried to manage her expectations offering her a refund if we could re-list her room. This was not possible as she left after the first night with the keys to her room.
She is entitled to her opinions, they are subjective. A few objective untruths, however, are that: There was never any information the hostel was full when she arrived (she never met the people who arrived only days later) and Airbnb did visit the Hostel in 2013 (they took the pictures on this site)
Of course AirBnB takes a commission on the room price; regardless, Poppy Hostel still provides centrally located accommodations well below the market price for a private (ie no dorm) room.
I'm truly sorry you didn't like Poppy, Martine. Maybe Hosteling is just not for you.
Our experience lends weight to the adage by John Lydgate....
“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.”
