I had the best experience at Mauricio's place! He and his mother were both so sweet and helped me with everything I needed. I felt so comfortable right away. The room is beautiful too and very homey. I could walk to the mall too. I would definitely recommend it, especially if interviewing at Midwestern!
Mauricio and his mother were very friendly and helpful with giving directions around the area! They were kind enough to drop me off at the nearest train station to go to downtown. Not to mention that he had stocked up the fridge in the room with water and some other assorted drinks, his kitchen wasn't off limits-- he insisted on us to get snacks and make whatever we please! Definitely recommend staying at his home. Mauricio is very big on privacy and will let you be unless you need anything/have any questions. He'll make you feel right at home too
Mauricio is very nice and hospitable. He was very flexible with his check-in and check-out which I really appreciated, and the location was perfect for me as I needed to be within walking distance of the hotel where my conference was. Additionally, the mall is right there and there are a variety of restaurants within walkable and Uber range. The bedroom was just remodeled, so it was very nice to stay in; the personal air conditioning unit was perfect as it was during the summer, so I stayed comfortably cool. I dinged the place a star because the bathroom was not up to the standard I expect. Other than that, would stay here again.
Mauricio is a great host. He respects your privacy: he never showed up in my room unexpectedly (or even at all), and though his own bathroom didn't have a functional bath, he never once used my guest bathroom and had to go all the way to the building's pool to bath; he or his mother Isala (very nice lady who lived on the first floor) was always there for me when I needed anything; he invited me to many interesting conversations with his friends and acquaintance, and was eager to know more about my personal experience; he was very open when it came to sharing things: everything in the living room were meant to share. Professionally, Mauricio is a traveller and a Spanish language teacher, who has been to a few dozens of countries worldwide and still travels a lot. That's why for most of my stay Mauricio was in Puerto Rico. I enjoyed his company, but when he was out traveling it felt like the entire apartment was mine. His mother Isala would come up and clean my room everyday, and would respond promptly if I had any questions. Let's talk about the apartment. It is a mix of Catholic and Asian / Buddhist culture. Decorations and collectibles are everywhere, giving the place an exotic touch. If you stay there, you stay at one of the two bedrooms (equipped with a TV, a small microwave and a fridge) and will have your own bathroom, and you can use the kitchen and the vast dinning room / living room, though the condition of the kitchen could use some improvements. The place also has a balcony which is surprisingly unused. I thought it would be pretty pleasant out there when the weather's nice. Many elderly live in the building, so it has a rigorous security system. The community, located in the western suburbs of Chicago, is always safe and quiet. If you has a car, a huge shopping center including a Target is only 3 minutes away; many nice restaurants are within a 10-minute radius, so use your (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map / yelp. If you are new to the Chicago area, definitely try Portillo at Downer's Drive. Not to mention many others. Chicago is around 30 minutes' drive to the east. Oh, and a little heads-up: Mauricio and his mother Isala are very serious about energy conservation. After all it's their place, so please comply.
