Walk for a few minutes and you will find yourself in Brick lane. Made famous by its Curry Restaurants, now a hot spot for trendy artists and musicians. Be sure to visit The Truman Brewery, home to “East London’s revolutionary arts and media quarter.” Check out the beer gardens at the Vibe Bar and 93 Feet East. Then there’s the 24 hour bakery that sells an irresistible salt beef bagel.
Shoreditch is one of the most popular and trendy areas of London for various groups of alternative artists, fashion designers, music and food lovers from around the world. No visit to London is complete without a visit here. It’s one of the city’s coolest places which definitely has a chic, urban edge. There’s a real buzz about the place, especially on Sundays, market day. Start off at Spitalfields Market, there’s been one here since 1638! You’ll find everything from designer goods to second hand bric-a-brac. Or why not try one of the traditional British and World cuisine food stalls. If nightlife is what you’re looking for then you’ll find it here in abundance.
To the west is the financial center known as “The City”. Home to The Bank of England and The Stock Exchange, visit a side to London that many miss. The historic Guildhall with its Roman Amphitheatre and Monument are all within walking distance.
Walk southwards and in 10 minutes you’ll find yourself at the World Heritage site of The Tower of London and London Bridge. Wander along the banks of the Thames past Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The Tate Modern Gallery and cross the Millennium Bridge to St Paul’s Cathedral. Further west along the river you’ll find Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster, the home of the British Government. Stroll north past Downing Street (home to the prime minister) and Trafalgar Square and you have arrived in “The West End” home to theatre-land and excellent shopping. Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park are both must sees.
The 2013 London Olympic Park in Stratford is less than 10 minutes away by train. You’ll also find the largest urban shopping center in Europe, Westfield Stratford City, here.
