Fantastic host, great place which was spotlessly clean, in a good location and came with best Lemmon drizzle cake I’ve had. Highly recommend

Great host, beautiful cottage. Nice rural location but still close enough to m6 to get around easily.

Really enjoyed our short stay. The Shippon was perfect and everything as described. The place was lovely and clean and a friendly welcome by Pam. The homemade cake was a lovely touch. Many thanks.

From Grand Designs to Property Ladder, via countless other property programmes, The Barn Conversion is a well-known theme. The Shippon is a barn conversion and the result is as cosy and comfortable as it is pleasing to the eye. Pam and her husband have done it proud! Inside, Pam had provided some essential groceries. On its own, this was a nice gesture, but the icing on the cake was - well, a cake! Yes, Pam had baked us a cake! It was a Victoria Sponge and it was DELICIOUS! We ended up with a difficult problem to solve at the end of our stay - the comfort of The Shippon made it a very difficult place to leave. Only visiting friends and family elsewhere in the British Isles could winkle us out! But that (URL HIDDEN) we decided to take Pam with us!! Ok, we didn't, but it was a close call. The Shippon - you'll LOVE it. Hoscar is a great location for exploring. There are some great pubs in the immediate area. The Leeds-Liverpool canal passes near here and is great for walking along. Rufford Hall (1530) is not far from Hoscar and the canal runs close to it. Historic Ormskirk is close by and Southport and Liverpool are within easy reach. Picturesque villages abound. Lancashire abounds with mysterious places; you may have heard of the Pendle witches! But there are plenty of other places of mystery, intrigue and interest, from the Stone Age to the present day. Fill yer boots!! If you're going into Liverpool - 3 cathedrals (Roman Catholic, Anglican and The Cavern (ask your granny!!) - drive to somewhere on the Liverpool-Southport electric railway, park in a station and get the train. Parking in most cities is a nightmare! In the case of Liverpool, if you drive to Blundellsands and Crosby, go to the beach there and ponder "Another Place" - 100 life-sized cast iron statues of their creator, Antony Gormley. He also created The Angel of the North, near Gateshead. Hoscar is only about four miles from the M6 motorway, making The Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales, The Peak District and even North Wales only an hour and a half's drive away - well maybe a bit longer to Caernarvon or Holyhead, but still, eminently reachable. If you're into etymology, the name, "Shippon" means a cow shed. Don't let that put you off. It was what it was. The name is Germanic in origin and comes to us from Old English: "Scypen". To reiterate, The Shippon is a lovely place to be, whether you venture out of it, or not! Pam, the owner, is a delightful host and just the best Victoria Sponge baker this side of The Van Allen Belts!

We had a great time in this lovely cottage. It has been very well maintained, is high quality and very clean. The garden is lovely and even better than in the photo. You would probably want a car, but there are some lovely pubs nearby, next to the canal. Pam was extremely friendly and accommodating.

Absolutely fabulous accommodation, beautiful decor, spotless, warm and had everything you could need to hand (even a home made cake when we arrived!). Pam was extremely friendly and welcoming and gave us good advice about where to visit and eat. Definitely a 10/10 from us :)
