At the time of booking, I had written to these guest to make sure they had read and were comfortable with the house rules, as I usually do with folks with a limited number of reviews (1 in this case).
Despite this, when checking in, these guests expressed surprise that this is in fact our home. When it became clear that they were expecting something different from what they had actually booked, I asked if they had actually read the listing description before booking, and the response was 'not really' (or something to that effect). They went on to leave the shared bathroom in very messy condition, relative to our typical guests, who are respectful, clean and tidy. They left it in the kind of condition that some might treat a private ensuite hotel bathroom. I had to speak to them about it, and I also logged my concerns with Airbnb.
This guest also helped himself to our private bottled water supply, without asking before hand, which was in no way indicated as free to take. He did however tell us after the fact that he had taken it, and he offered to replace the bottle, but in the end, he never did. This guest has limited airbnb experience, and from what we have seen, does not know how to respect a person's home, and does not even take care to know what they are booking. I hope that experienced airbnb users can take this uncharacteristically negative review rating from this guest in it's proper context, and compare this with our other other reviews in order to get a more balanced perspective.
