This is a great base for visiting Western Tuscany, perfect for two couples, or a family. Stay in our comfortable 3 BR, 2 bath vacation home in beautiful Tuscany, with fantastic views over the Versilian Riviera and the Apuan Alps. Close to major cities: just 40 min to Pisa, 1 hour to Florence, and cultural attractions are nearby in Lucca, Pistoia, Camaiore, Pietrasanta. The Italian Riviera, with its miles of sandy beaches, beachfront restaurants and clubs, is 15 minutes drive. Direct flights to Pisa from New York, London, Paris, Frankfurt and major European cities make this a convenient destination for a holiday.
The home has a traditional exterior, but is completely modernized, with terracotta tiled floors, retained chestnut beams, designer kitchen, oil central heating. With quiet ceiling fans in all bedrooms, and the sea breezes, there is no need for noisy AC. A large terrace makes a wonderful outdoor room. There's a living room with fireplace, welcoming couches and plenty of books and guides. Aluminum custom shutters provide privacy, shade and are fully screened for insect control. The terrace and private garden are private outdoor spaces where you can enjoy the spectacular views over the coast and mountains. Cyclist watching is a great spectator sport, the clubs ride through the village every weekend and the Viareggio-Firenze race is an August feature.
The house is located in the heart of a small hilltop village near the historic town of Camaiore. In Pedona, there are two grocery stores, a bar, and popular restaurant within two minutes walk. There are charming walks around the village with fabulous views. A local bus service stops in the piazza, linking to downtown Viareggio.
After a day of sightseeing, hiking, or just hanging out at the beach, if you don't feel like cooking (much) you can pick up a ready cooked pizza, or absolutely fresh pasta and sauce, with pastries from the patisserie from downtown Camaiore ten minutes away. Or dine at one of the dozens of nearby restaurants (including our village restaurant, which is a destination dining experience for everyone else but a short walk for you!). Remember to take a stroll in the local towns before dinner, when the boutiques, art galleries, and vinotheques are all open. One of our favorite restaurants, in nearby Nocchi, sited in an old mill, serves fabulous pastas (including wild boar ragu sauce, and butternut squash ravioli) and traditional appetizers. Roast meats (spit or open grilled) are their specialty, including what we call dinosaur chicken, the pieces are so huge (and delicious!). With the help of our house guide, you will feel you know the neighborhood and will be immediately able to enjoy all the delights of the area.
