I felt very welcome in João´s appartment. Joâo was out late on the night of my arrival, but communication was perfect and I had no trouble with his late arrival. The room is like you can see at the pictures, but you have to be able to climb some stairs. The elevator starts at the first floor, the entrance, kitchen and living room are at the fifth floor and the toilet, shower and bedroom are downstairs at the fourth floor.
Now I look at the pictures again, it looks as if João had moved a closet, so I could fit my banana boxes into the room. That was nice, but not really necessary, because the room is big enough, even if you live in your car and take alle your luggage into your room, like I do, while travelling.
I had a wonderfull Saturday evening at a fado restaurant in Alfama, together with Joâo. Too bad the ladies did not want to come, but Joâo and I were free to share our frustrations we had with women and it added up to the good atmosphere.
I really enjoyed the long conversations in Portuguese I had with Joâo. When I was trying to hide some bad vibes I had, João would have been a really good psychologist: he made me talk, he turned out to be a good listener and he showed no prejudices. Now that is how a real good friend would act!!! Do I still need to explain why it seems as if I have met João a long time ago?
What you may not like so much, is that the door locks in this house all need to be treated with a trick. The lock of the door to the street does not open if you turn the key and push, but it will open on your second attempt if you slightly pull. The appartment door lock is a real test to your patience. Just stay calm and keep trying.
All in all, I recommend João´s place: I trust him like a friend, parking was for free, the Telheiras metro station is just 5 minutes walking and Lisboa city centre is about 20 minutes by metro train.
