Extraordinary stay at Kohei's place in Hida Furukawa. The house is simply amazing, very large and respecting traditional Japanese style. Very well located in the heart of Hida old town. Kohei is an excellent guest as well!

We have traveled with 3 kids; the house is located in a great area within a walking distance from the old places you would visit; it is extremely specious and greatly designed; it is all made of wood, traditionally restored; plenty of space for the 5 of us; many storage places, large kitchen you can cook your own meals (but to be honest – many great places to eat out); However, the Japanese style bathroom is the best part of the house; you have your own special inhouse private onsen, with unlimited hot water, all made of Japanese wood. The house is equipped with washing machine and dryer so all facilities requirements are met. Kohei hosted us with lots of charm; welcomed us and explained about the house restoration project and gave us lots of valuable tips and places to visit and eat in town; we enjoyed our stay very much and wish we could stay more than 3 nights; we will be happy to visit again and if so, would love to stay here in the future. Thanks Kohei for being a great host and offering a great place to stay!

I can not recommend this beautiful home highly enough! It was perfect for our family of eight!! Very comfortable and well appointed in truly traditional Japanese style. Kohei was such a gracious host and was so easy to communicate with, nothing was ever too much trouble for Kohei. Hida Furukawa is a very central and peaceful place from which to explore the whole Hida region. An unforgettable week for our family in our month touring Japan.

Due to the bad weather, we arrived very late at night (11PM), but the host greeted us very warmly and even bought us breakfast food in case we hadn't had time to buy food. He also gave us a detailed tour of the house and gave us a simple map of the town. He asked if we had watched Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name), a Japanese animated movie, and since we hadn't, the kids watched it and it definitely made the trip more exciting as the movie had iconic scenes in the very same town. As for the house itself, it is absolutely beautiful. The little garden area is truly picturesque. The tatami rooms and futons were roomy and comfortable. Everything looked so traditional and authentic. It was a unique and amazing experience. Now you must be wondering how it was in the summer without AC... There are a few fans in the house and windows can be opened, so the house was never too hot or too humid. it was all in all very comfortable.

The stunning house alone is enough reason to stay here, but an unexpected bonus is the beauty and joy of the town of Hida Furakawa, and meeting Kohei our Host. The house was spacious, well maintained, and very well equipped in every way for our family (including kitchen and laundry). The architectural beauty and features make it a very special place to stay. Hida Furakawa is full of beauty - houses, natural environment and people - and very easy to get around on foot including from the local train station. We caught the train from Nagoya and the thrice itself was a fabulous experience. Kohei is a very helpful and considerate host, and full of knowledge about the house and township. One of the best experiences ever and we hope o be back one day!

Hello, I am Kohei.

I'm run project manager of "Hida Satoyama Office Project" , to renovate and maintain unoccupied houses worth sustaining for providing unique stay in HidaFurukawa. It’s managed by the local civil engineering and architecture company, Yanagi-Gumi(柳組 ) established since 1907, for the sustainability in Hida Furukawa, because we love Hida Furukawa and the future.

This “Satoyama Stay” is a collection of private accommodation houses dotted in Hida Furukawa town. You can stay at the refurbished Kominka”(the traditional folk house) for an accommodation as your home and hometown.

We consider one the town itself as Ryokan; “Dining”, “Wellness”, “Activity” and “Lodging”. So special service collaborated with locals can be provided for our guest.

And I'm also living in the Hida Furukawa town. It is my pleasure to meet you and help your travel as a local one.
