The mooring of our unique ship - or houseboat - The Somoya is on the Java Island, a central location and safe haven of tranquility just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of the old city, within sight of Central Station.
Our 36 x 6m ship houses our Bed&Boat, Somoya's Saloon* upstairs on the upper deck and we live in the main family residence downstairs in the hull. (*'saloon' = the social cabin for first-class passengers)
Somoya's Saloon is one-of-a-kind and is situated upstairs in the large steering hut of our classic ship. Somoya's Saloon has its own separate entrance and is completely private & self-sufficient. It's JUST YOU upstairs, so you are always our only & exclusive guests! You have the 'suite' luxury of your own bathroom, kitchenette, double bed, sofa & lounge area in a 45m2 blend of crisp design with a classic touch. Somoya's Saloon can accommodate 2 adults very comfortably.
Somoya's Saloon offers fantastic views of the harbor, from the east all the way to Central Station, plus a huge 60m2 south-facing sun-deck where you can catch the sun from morning to evening and watch the world float by, whether enjoying breakfast at the deck table, contemplating the sun setting in the IJ, or sipping wine in a hammock. In fact, most guests end up spending much more time on board than they planned. All kinds of delights within walking distance. Including swimming in the harbour and a place to rent SUP boards! Trams and buses stop close by and walking into town is no problem but our free bicycles are the absolute best way to get around town and add to your Somoya freedom and authentic Amsterdam experience! We have welcomed guests from all over the world and we love to meet them. And while we totally respect your absolute privacy there's usually someone around or within messaging range to answer your questions or help you out with anything you need. We're not always around on arrival as we are often at work/school etc but feel free to pop downstairs, knock (loudly!) and say hi when we get home if you like.
Outras coisas a ter em conta
Somoya's Saloon is run as as a luxury self-sufficient apartment as opposed to a full-service hotel. We request that you leave it normally tidy. (no food etc lying around) Cleaning is on departure only. Excessive cleaning will be charged. If you are staying for longer than 3 nights extra towels will be provided. Tea/coffee/sugar/muesli can be filled up on request.
The Somoya is the ideal retreat for 2 guests. Please know that the fold-out sofa bed is not as comfy as a bed and that our neighbours appreciate peace & quiet in the evenings! Unfortunately we cannot accept requests for 3 (or more) guests.
As is typical on ships in general it should be said that not all the areas of the Somoya are standard height* which is why the Saloon may not be suitable for very tall people! *2.10m in the middle
Don’t forget: The Somoya is a ship surrounded by water. It is perfectly suitable for children but we cannot take that responsibility for other parents.
While the kitchenette is well-equipped for preparing and/or warming up simple food & drinks, it is not possible to cook in the studio. There is a microwave-oven/kettle/toaster/egg-cooker/coffee-machine/fridge etc available as well as all the usual in terms of crockery and utensils.

And finally please do not leave lights and heating on full when you leave the ship. Somoya's Saloon is not huge or high and so will warm up quickly when you return. Our utility bills were horrendous last year and we would like to keep Somoya's Saloon affordable for all our guests while pulling together to avoid unnecessary waste of energy. Thanks!
Oh yes....mellow soft drugs and alcohol are no problem IN MODERATION. But badly behaved guests, aggressive guests, noisy guests and/or guests that pose a threat or risk in any way to our home, our family, our property, our surroundings and/or our neighbours will be asked to leave immediately without a refund, regardless of the cause. Luckily we have NEVER had to do this and don't expect to, but unfortunately it seems from local friends' experiences that this sort of statement needs to be very clear in advance.
Ahoy! from the Somoya Crew. Avid travellers, boat enthusiasts & designers. The Somoya is our dream boat, which we designed from scratch and had built in 2005 - the first of it's kind in Amsterdam. It's unique! We both have our own businesses, I am an architect, Roland is a houseboat designer, 3D expert & lecturer, Riva is our high school beauty. With regards to our guests we're flexible, easygoing and love getting to chat....when we get the time :) Our B&B upstairs - Somoya's Saloon - has been up and running for a few years now, and we love, love, love the AirBnB guests above all. The best thing about having guests from all over the world is that everyone arrives happy & relaxed and leaves even more so. Bring on the positive energy! We thought people came to see Amsterdam for the usual things (& recommend our free bikes as the absolute best way to cruise around town); but most of our guests end up spending much more time chilling out on the Somoya than they probably planned to. It might be the hammock, or the free drinks in the fridge, or the almost 360 harbour view, or the books & mags, or the fresh bathrobes, or the huge sun deck or just the whole houseboat experience with a luxurious twist - who knows? Who cares? We see it as a huge compliment. Read the reviews or even better, come find out for yourself. Looking forward to welcoming you on board the Somoya soon!
