Welcome to "Cabin on Swede Hill". Our family has farmed this land since 1871. My great grandparents, Swan and Johanna Johnson immigrated to America in the 1860's, found this land which was similar to Sweden. They raised their family here. Approximately 65 Swedish families settled in this community, became to be know as the "Swede Hills". We just received the Hoosier Homestead Award from Indiana celebrating the Sesquicentennial Award. We invite you to come...... and experience country life.

The District 5 Schoolhouse was historically built "with not a single nail in the structure" in the 1800's. It still stands as a symbol of dedication to craftsmanship and community. Lovingly restored, preserving as much of the original soul as possible, it promises to be a luxury stay in understated sophistication with 100% linen sheets, beautiful kitchen/dining, lovely private outdoor space, tranquil idyllic work/recharge areas, and enough space to make your own history. Overlook and explore 152 acres of trails, horses, cattle and much more. Guests are encouraged to experience a tour of the ranch with Rancher Tom free of charge! 10 minutes from Silver Beach/Downtown St. Joseph and Hagar Beach, both on the gorgeous Lake Michigan. Bonfires welcome with wood provided & pet friendly!

Sweet cottage on our farm: Fully equipped kitchen and furnished living/sleeping area 14’x15' approx., washer/dryer. Sleeps 4: queen bed and queen sofa bed. Lots of privacy and next to organic garden, fields, stable and fruit orchards. All utilities, TV and WI-FI included. Well water with new water softener and water heater. Pet friendly; no pet fee. Lots of farm paths to walk your pet. Encourage off leash if trained. Horses have moved to another farm while pasture and stable rehabbed.

We also provide a pass to Silver Beach and all other county parks.

Experience the beauty of country living this season! From spring planting in May to fresh strawberries in June; grape harvest in Sep and pumpkin picking in Oct, or simply admire the snow tipped vines in the endless acres surrounding the farmhouse! Kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space. Nestled among the trees, it provides a quiet getaway from the chaos of life allowing you to recharge and renew. The main residence is approximately 400 feet from the cabin. The cabin is secluded and yet close to local attractions, restaurants, biking and nature trails. The Cabin has a total of 420 sq ft living space with 280 sq ft on the ground floor and a 140 sq ft bedroom loft.

Nestled on five secluded, tree-lined acres, with a pond, waterfall, fire pit, tree swing, basketball court and walking trails, The Shire feels a million miles away from it all - but isn't! We are only minutes away from wineries, breweries, amazing beaches, restaurants and shopping. (Notre Dame is an easy 30 minute drive). Southwest Michigan is a beautiful place to live!
