NEW! Wall heater installed and functional as of 2/19/20 Welcome to Milky Way Run, a one bedroom cabin located in the heart of the Chihuahuan desert. We are located 25 minutes from Big Bend National Park west entrance, and 25 minutes to Terlingua Ghost town. This tiny cabin is efficient, affordable, adorable, and pet friendly (we even have a fence!). Pull up a chair, grab your favorite beverage, and sit outside in your own private space enjoying unparalleled views of the Milky Way.
We have a scenic 5 acre lot nestled in the foothills of the Christmas Mountains, and we are a 25 minute stress free (and gorgeous) drive to the west entrance of Big Bend National Park (it is a BIG park and you will have to drive more once you have entered - do your homework and plan accordingly). Drive Times: Study Butte (gas): 18 minutes (on the way to BBNP) Terlingua Ghosttown: 25 minutes Cottonwood Grocer: 20 minutes (on the way to BBNP) Big Bend National Park: 25 minutes to the west entrance We are situated in a cool, eclectic neighborhood with easy access to paved roads. You will have the 5 acres all to yourself with a private drive to the center of the property. Lots of amenities for outdoor lovers. We are located .7 miles on a dirt road off of the main Terlingua Ranch road. We have no air conditioner, no electricity or WiFi. We DO have heat. This is a pack it in / pack it out rental! Please do your part to keep this space super nice and super affordable. We do not charge a cleaning fee to save you money. In return, you will need to take your trash and recycling with you, and clean up after yourself. We provide instructions in the cabin. This is about 20 minutes worth of work and saves you a lot of money. Help us make this world a better place, and leave *everywhere* better than you found it. You will need to bring your own towels/bedding/pillows/sleeping bags/blankets/toilet paper/paper towels/dishsoap/dishes/water/charcoal/etc... Think of this as glamping with a hard sided tent. While we may surprise you with a few of those things provided, please do not assume any of them will be there. We provide a wonderful and comfortable space for your camping experience. You provide the rest. Bring a twin sheet set if using the bed as a twin, and bring a king set if using the bed as a king (it pulls out to a king size). Also, don't forget your sleeping bag! - we do have enough heat to keep the chill out of the air, but you will still need very warm bedding for cold nights. Cook your dinner on a large covered Pilot Rock charcoal grill. This grill is made for some serious cooking/smoking! Bring your own charcoal and some some steaks or veggies. The property offers a firepit for your s'mores and singing needs, and a cooking grate over the fire if you prefer an open flame to charcoal. Outside the cabin is a simple yet useful cooler station to set your cooler on. This includes an elevated area for washing dishes, prepping meals, or acts as a resting spot for your favorite beverage. We provide an outhouse for your use. You will be responsible for disposing of your waste, but we provide a very sanitary, simple, and odor free eco-friendly bathroom. If this is not for you, we understand - there are plenty of other options available in the area. Please find something that suits your needs. This tiny cabin (9x11) offers efficient use of space for your comfort - no legs on the bar table and no legs on the nightstands equals more floor space and an open feeling. Lots of shelving for storage - pantry shelves, open kitchen cabinet, and open shelves above each nightstand to unpack your clothes (with room under the night stands to store your luggage). Various hooks everywhere for hats, bags, clothes, headlamps, jackets, or whatever else you might want to hang. Even a hook on the porch to hang your solar lamp. A propane wall heater is provided to keep the cabin comfortable on cold nights. The heater comes equipped with a low oxygen sensor, and there is carbon monoxide detector installed the cabin. The cabin has a King sized memory foam bed - shown in pics as daybed, but this pulls out into a comfortable king bed. If you don't want to share a bed with your bestie, we offer a Novaform Versamat floormat that can be used as a separate bed. Enjoy our private groomed area and view the milky way from your fully fenced yard! Dark skies abound in this area. We do not have cell service at the cabin, nor do we have WiFi. You will need to bring your water with you or get water in town (you can fill up water jugs at the Cotton Wood General Store in Study Butte for about 10 cents a gallon). There is no electricity other than what you bring with you. This is your opportunity to really unplug from the daily stresses of life and enjoy the enjoy the peace and tranquility of the desert's slower pace. NOTE ABOUT PETS: We are dog friendly. We allow up to 2 well behaved dogs (for an extra $10 per night). Our dog (Watson) loves coming here with us. While your furry friend is welcomed to stay with us, please note the following: the Big Bend area is NOT pet friendly. Dogs are not allowed on any of the trails in the park (please respect park rules; they are there for a reason). The weather is too unpredictable to safely leave your dog alone in the cabin or in your car. The fence - while it works for Watson - is not dog proof. The fence is 4' tall. If your dog jumps or digs, they will be able to escape. Do not leave your dog alone in the fenced area - we have bears, bobcats, lions, hares (for chasing), etc... While you know better than to approach these animals on the very rare occasion you should see them, your dog does not. This is not a place to lose your dog. Please understand that bringing your dog can change your trip. Bring at your own risk and please - keep your dog safe and happy! Cut and paste links below for more information. BBNP https://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/pets.htm BBRSP https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/big-bend-ranch/dog-policies We are able to keep Watson safe and happy because we spend most of our time at the cabin and we take him on errands in town. He loves it. Your Fido's miles may vary.
We are 25 minutes from the west entrance to Big Bend National Park. The park is very large, and once you enter you will spend more time driving. Do your homework and plan accordingly. We are about 18 minutes from Study Butte where you’ll find a gas station. We are 25 minutes from Terlingua Ghosttown. Terlingua offers plenty of eating options, including the famous Starlight Theatre (try the Diego burger or the brisket tacos!) and LaKiva. We are about 20 minutes from Study Butte, where you'll find gas and Cottonwood Grocer (on your way to the park). A drive down to the Terlingua Ranch Lodge will lead to free hot showers and the Bad Rabbit Cafe (great burgers!) for food. In the summer months they offer a gorgeous pool for $5 per person. The lodge is about 12 miles down Terlingua Ranch Road from Milky Way Run.

This is an off grid Rammed Earth home made almost entirely from natural and repurposed materials. Soak in the views while wandering over 100 acres of breathtaking terrain. The view of the stars, sunrise, and sunsets will change your life. I’ve built this home with every bit of love that I have and hope to share it with only those who can appreciate the beauty of nature, architecture, and sustainable living. I hope this space will inspire you to delve deep into your creative selves.
My home sits on over 100 acres and is surrounded by mountains, mesas, and spires. It is 25 minutes from the entrance of Big Bend National Park. There are also restaurants in the Ghost Town Terlingua 30 minutes away. I have a fully functional kitchen with pots, pans, baking sheets, dishes, and silverware. There is also an oven and stove out on the front porch to use in the summer when it’s too hot to cook inside. I have a large propane grill and a small charcoal grill you can use. Bring your own charcoal. This place is newly listed on Airbnb but is far more elaborate than my other listing next door called”Off Grid Earthbag House”. You can look at the nearly 300 reviews there to see what you should expect here
  • Mágico. Respire tomando. Paz. Quieto. Serene ...

Welcome to Dancing Moon Desert Retreats! Come enjoy the desert in its most pristine environment for a magical experience! This 10 acre property and Black Moon, the remodelled Argosy trailer are just for you! Silence and beauty all around. Sunrises and sunsets and outdoor cooking and dining seating right under the milky way. And a lovely selection of art books, poetry, artworks and board games await you inside Black Moon. Because the desert is best enjoyed with quiet and eyes wide open!
Please be so kind as to read the entire description to answer any questions you may have. Black Moon hosts 2 guests and no children or pets, no exception :) All 10 acres of the property are for your private enjoyment. The Airstream Argosy was entirely remodeled and rebuilt as a desert retreat. It has solar power, as well as solar and battery operated lights, inside and out on the property. Fire pit and outdoor kitchen, breathtaking views of the surroundings and stunning sunrises and sunsets straight from your bed, and magical stargazing! Soft linens are provided for the bed as well as pillows, throws and comforter, so that you can travel light :) The bed is a super comfy gel memory foam Queen size mattress with big fluffy pillows. To enjoy a night of cooking under the Milky Way, all you have to do is bring your own charcoal or fire wood! Black Moon has plates, forks and knives, and fire cooking utensils. You can either enjoy grilling on the fire (a cooking griddle is provided), or you can use the BBQ! To preserve water which is so precious to us out here in the desert, we built a composting toilet which sits along a lovely desert walkway with grandiose yuccas and various cactii. The bathroom is shared with our other adjacent property’s guests when rented. Please note, there is no shower facility on site, but if you drive up to the Ranch headquarters, you have free access to full bathrooms and to the pool during open season. The last 3 miles of that drive are on an unpaved road and the showers are usually open 24/7.
The Ranch HQ is about 10 miles away, with the famous Bad Rabbit Cafe, Swimming Pool, Full Bathrooms and Laundry Room. The Ghost Town and Study Butte are a short drive away heading South (about 20 miles) as is the entrance of Big Bend National Park (about 25 miles).

    Didi2019-09-29T00:00:00Z

1972 School Bus named “Franny.” Considered “upscale” primitive camping because no tent required. PET FRIENDLY! Tin Valley Retro Rentals was featured on Nat Geo’s documentary show “Badlands, Texas, and has caught the attention of travelers all over the world. 90 private acres nestled in the foothills of surrounding mountains. Perfect for stargazing! Located near Big Bend National & State Park and the Rio Grande. Families, solo travelers, couples, photographers, weddings, are all welcomed!
"Franny" is a “home-grown” girl of Terlingua. Special because she has housed many river guides of the Rio Grande for over 20 years. With her hip charming interior & her “one-of-a-kind” painted exterior, you can't help but feel ready for your new adventure. She is considered “upscale primitive” because she has enough solar energy to power a telephone and/or fan, and also has a propane heater for the cold months. As long as your fur baby isn’t aggressive & doesn’t eat kitties, WE LOVE having pets! Both the Big Bend National Park & the State Park provide the largest protected area of Chihuahuan desert topography & ecology also giving a stunning sunrise, sunset & magnitude of stars with Milky Way directly above. Also, feel free to check out our other 11 campsites, from “glamping” Airstreams, to a Land Yacht, & even a VW bug. The following is provided at your campsite: 1. Full & single cot. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BEDDING/LINENS. 2. Small fan. 3. Propane heater. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR 20 lb. PROPANE CANISTER. 4. Wifi available on property. 5. Solar energy for temporary light source and/or charging of your phone, computer, etc... If it is rainy or cloudy it will not work so bring your own flash lights/light source. PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT use heating electric appliances. Solar panel does not have enough energy. 6. Small BBQ grill, fire pit, & picnic table at campsite. (bring plenty of wood with you!) 7. Port-o-Potty within walking distance. 8. Outdoor shower (no hot water) & sink within walking distance. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN TOILETRIES. 9. Shower/bath house, laundry facility, swimming pool - 4 miles away This campsite is self check-in/self check-out. No key required. In order to keep rates down your help is needed. PLEASE leave your campsite as clean or cleaner than when you arrived. A broom and rake are provided. There is a trash can at your site and a large trash bin on property. Please assist in keeping everyone's vacation experience the best it can be by cleaning up. Thank you! *No running water at this campsite.

Welcome to my earth bag home located 25 minutes outside of the entrance to Big Bend National Park. The house sits on 100 acres with 360 degree views of mountains, mesas, pinnacles, spires, and buttes. A truly unique way to experience the area.
It is not uncommon to see multiple storms raging at once while the sun is setting, lightning striking, moon beaming, stars shooting, and rainbows arching all in unison. The views stretch to an estimated 40-50 miles wide while boasting an ever changing kaleidoscopic sky that will come back to you in your dreams time and time again.
You will be lucky to see one car drive by a day leaving you with the feeling of ultimate solitude. All of my neighbors are friendly but will most likely just wave if you see them. Actually, people locally wave at everyone everywhere, so just wave back!

    Philip2019-07-07T00:00:00Z

Obrigado Jamie!

    Brittany2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
Minha filha adorava poder ver todas as estrelas e a Via Láctea.

Wide-open space!Water is outside and there is a flush toilet as well. Just solar shower, primitive, or go to ranch shower house.
Nestled in the heart of the Christmas Mountains, the region is scenic, peaceful, and serene. Bird-watching, wildlife-spotting, hiking, and unwinding. Writers will love the head-space. Couples will love the privacy.
I love that I can go the whole day and not see another person. The sunrises and sunsets are always amazing; we have wide-open skies and, with no lights around, a great view of the Milky Way! We're very lucky to live surrounded by nature, but please remember that the Big Bend is home to lots of wildlife. There are snakes and mountain lions in the region, so please be aware whenever you're hiking in the Big Bend area.

Campsites are available upon special request if you need to accommodate a group over 5 people. Campers are required to bring all their own bedding and bath linens. (Additional $25 cleaning fee applies and there will be an additional charge of $10 per person per night for tent camping. This helps cover the cost of additional water usage). Special request of our guests: We do ask that our guests not use more than 10 gallons of our rainwater per day / per person. Please help us conserve our most valuable and precious resource in the desert - our water! Please do not bring or use any electrical appliances that heat up - such as a blow dryer, curling iron, coffee maker, crock pot etc. These appliances will drain the solar battery bank and can possibly damage the system. The Little Dipper has a great view of the stars right on Highway 118. your room is private but the other space is shared. The Little Dipper has an A/C, queen bed, dresser & table. Most of the space is outdoor so dust kinda can't be helped. Common area's are the outdoor bar/kitchen, toilet & shower, bbq & campfire. Please don't put bottle & cans in the campfire, there is a trash for that. We don't have many trees so bring some firewood. Please respect others privacy.
The Little Dipper has 1 queen bed with dresser & table. There is an outdoor toilet & shower as well as an outdoor kitchen/bar . There are small trails on the property and a few campfire spots.
Big Bend National Park & Big Bend State Park are both within reach and the privacy that you can find is very unique. There are plenty of restaurants in Study Butte, The Ghosttown, Terlingua Ranch & Lajitas.

Tão perto do parque. Recomendaria e ficaria novamente

    Kayla2019-09-26T00:00:00Z

Apreciamos a nossa visita a Big Bend. Proximidade!

    Clay2019-09-14T00:00:00Z

Crystal Mountain One on Terlingua Ranch is the ideal home base for your visit to the Big Bend Region. Modern design will set the perfect tone for your Big Bend adventure. The surprising seclusion will provide ample privacy and solitude. Relax inside or outside. Lots of space, large windows, covered decks, a large stone patio, and 65 private acres provide lots of options on where to hang out. At night watch meteors fall and satellites fly overhead as you marvel at the Milky Way. Relax around the campfire with a refreshing beverage, maybe even a sausage on a stick, or better yet, some s’mores. Whatever you eat and drink around the fire ring, will go well with campfire stories, some songs, or whatever else you want to do. It’s just you and your partner, or family and friends, under a starry Texas sky. During the day, head into to park, down to Terlingua, or to the Rio Grande, or just enjoy the home and the secluded 65 acres of Chihuahuan Desert habitat. At the property, relax inside or outside or go for a hike around the rugged and scenic property. Wildlife and diverse desert plant life and abundant and varied. The living room and kitchen are open concept with lots of space and amazing views through large picture windows. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, cookware, utensils, a large fridge, glass top stove and oven, dishwasher, and all the basics you would expect in a large kitchen. The bedrooms have king bed in the master and a queen bed in the second bedroom. The bathroom is spacious and stylish with two sinks and a large shower. Terlingua Ranch Lodge, just ten minutes away has a great pool plus the Bad Rabbit Café for great food, cold drinks, and frequent live music. The lodge office is also the place to register if you want to explore the Christmas Mountain conservation area. Terlingua and the western entrance to Big Bend National Park is a short 35-minute drive away. Adventure outfitters located in Terlingua offer river trips, horseback riding, jeep tours, ATV adventures, Jeep rentals, guided hikes, and mountain bike rentals. The famous Terlingua Ghost Town is just 40 minutes away. Both the Ghost Town and the Terlingua/Study Butte area offer shopping, dining, drinking, live music, art galleries, and more. Heading another 15 minutes west from Terlingua will take you to Lajitas for more upscale dining options, a few great shops, and the chance to meet Clay Henry, the beer drinking goat that happens to be the mayor. Big Bend Ranch State Park (the national park’s wild and rugged cousin) is right there as well. Stop in at the Barton Warnock center just before you get to Lajitas for an overview of the park, museum, and a terrific book shop. Alpine, Fort Davis, Marfa, and the McDonald Observatory are also within easy day trip range. Come on down. Enjoy the Big Bend. Do as much or as little as you like. You’ll have a memorable time and will likely start planning your return trip before you even leave. That’s great. We’ll love to have come back over and over. In fact, that’s how the owner of Crystal Mountain became the owner. He came out here so often and enjoyed staying at other Big Bend Vacation Rental properties so much that he eventually decided to acquire his own properties. He now owns Crystal Mountain One and Two and Crystal Valley, just a short drive away. He was very deliberate and considerate in incorporating all the things he enjoyed the most at other rentals, plus adding extra touches to create the ultimate Big Bend vacation home base. Now, he’s eager to share it all with you.

No more than two dogs allowed. Sunrise Ridge is a brand-new vacation rental. Built in 2017 by a couple that loves the Big Bend and wanted the perfect vacation home for themselves and to share with others. Wonderful home, built in 2017, nestled into a gentle valley bordering the Christmas Mountains. Get away from everything with incredible, always-changing views in all directions, while still enjoying many modern amenities and easy access to Terlingua Ranch Headquarters, the surrounding towns, and Big Bend National Park. Sunrise Ridge is designed to be open and welcoming, maximizing comfort and offering multiple outdoor spaces that connect you with the magic of the Chihuahuan Desert. An enormous covered porch with stunning views of the Corazones Peaks often offers a breeze even in the warmest months, inviting you to relax in a rocking chair or nap in the double hammock. French doors lead to a cozy screened porch in back with lovely views into the Christmas Mountains. Inside, high ceilings, Saltillo tile floors and exposed wooden beams in the spacious living room provide an attractive space to sit and socialize or simply relax and read when you're not out exploring the area. Central air-conditioning and ceiling fans keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. Across an amazing granite-topped island, the modern kitchen has stainless steel appliances, including dishwasher. A half mile away from the closest neighbor, Sunrise Ridge offers sublime quiet and solitude. From the moment, the sun comes up over the eastern ridge of the valley, which has a pristine view of the Chisos Mountains and Big Bend National Park, the desert valley comes alive with wildlife and color, and there's enough space for hours of hiking to enjoy it all. As evening approaches, enjoy magnificent displays of shifting color and light as the sun sets on the other side of the valley, making way for a night so bright with stars that the Milky Way literally lights up the desert. From Sunrise Ridge, you are well-positioned for day trips across the West Texas area. To the North, you can drive to Fort Davis and the McDonald Observatory, Marfa and the Chinati Art Foundation, or Alpine and Sul Ross University's Museum of the Big Bend. Drive south and you'll find Terlingua Ghost Town, the south entrance to Big Bend National Park (about 50 minutes away), and the Big Bend Ranch State Park. Closer to home, about two miles from the house, is Terlingua Ranch Headquarters, where you can cool off in the swimming pool or grab some grub and maybe some live music at the Bad Rabbit Cafe, before retreating back to the valley and the quiet of your desert home. Being isolated doesn't mean being out of touch, though, and Sunrise Ridge has high-speed satellite internet and phone service to keep you plugged in, should you need it when you're not taking in all the other marvels that the Chihuahuan Desert and West Texas have to offer. We welcome you to share in the wonders of this unique and restorative place.
TERLINGUA RANCH: Located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park and including much of the town of Terlingua, Terlingua Ranch is a private subdivision of over 190,000 acres, divided into 9,500 tracts owned by about 5,000 individuals and crisscrossed by 1,100 miles of dirt and rock roads. Tracts range from five acres to several hundred acres. It is some of the most rugged and scenic land in Texas. Back in the 1960’s, the Ghost Town and much of what later became “Terlingua Ranch” was owned by racing legend and car designer extraordinaire, Carol Shelby and some of his friends. The decided to promote the area by holding a chili cook-off in the then abandoned Ghost Town. That little stunt of a cook-off grew into CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) which now hosts nearly 500 chili cook-offs around the nation and internationally, all leading up the championship cook-off every year in Terlingua. Shelby and friends later subdivided the Ranch and started selling it off to hunters and rugged naturalists. Over the decades, the area was reborn and an eclectic community of nature lovers, artists, musicians, adventurers, and folks just wanting to escape from “civilization” has grown and started to resettle this rough country. People have come and gone. New buildings have risen while others have fallen, Dreams have been realized and others crushed. Through it all, the land remains. The harsh desert and vast openness encourages positive development and slowly swallows up and recovers from past abuses. The old cinnabar mine sites and ranching outposts persist as relics and ghost towns, some redeveloped, some carefully preserved, and others dissolving back into the desert. Abandoned dreams eventually become points of interests for those of us that stumble upon them decades later. Terlingua Ranch is a bizarre mix of old and new, good and bad, growth and decline, all completely unregulated. Modern homes with high values and stunning designs stand beside dilapidated do-it-yourself mistakes and abandoned ruins of the 1800’s and early 1900’s. The landscape is even more varied than the people and the structures. Rugged mountains, deep canyons, wild arroyos, dry and wet creeks, peaceful valleys, breathtaking badlands, moonscape like mud flats, the remains of ancient volcanoes, and fossilized ancient seabeds. All of it nurturing a vast array of plant life and wildlife. Around every corner and over every hill lies new and unexpected surprises. The Ranch is now home to a few hundred hardy souls. It is also dotted with a diverse array of vacation rental lodging options and campsites. Like the diverse land, they range in quality, style, value, and price. A few are amazing dream destinations. Some are good places to sleep. Others are the stuff of nightmares. (We don’t manage any in the nightmare category.) Big Bend Vacation Rentals started out in 2007 and initially managed three of the first four vacation rentals in the Terlingua and Terlingua Ranch area. We now manage dozens out of a couple of hundred options. We represent dozens of property owners and have hosted tens of thousands of guests. You can trust us as managers, and you can rely on the properties that we manage. We have become very selective about the properties and the property owners that we add to our portfolio. Enjoy picturesque views from adobe home, built during early days of Terlingua Ranch and featuring original tiles imported from Mexico. Local lore says this was home to the early road crews here and later a repair shop. Enjoy great views of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park, and the surrounding mountains and ranges, their views and color often highlighted by spectacular sunrises and sunsets while you enjoy the many activities available in the area.
We are located 2 miles from Terlingua Ranch Lodge. At the Ranch you will find internet and a laundromat available, as well as food and entertainment at the Bad Rabbit Café. A swimming pool is available during warmer months. Both Big Bend National and State Parks are well within an hour drive, as well as the historic towns of Terlingua, Lajitas, and Ghost Town.
You will be able to reach the adobe, as well as most 'typical tourist' destinations by car. However, the Terlingua Ranch area is comprised of many many miles of dirt roads, some only accessible by 4 wheel drive or a quad. Always travel with plenty of water.

Enjoy meals, drinks, live music and more at the various restaurants and bars in the area. Sit out at night to watch the stars, tell tall tales, or enjoy a small fire. Drive along some of the most scenic roads in Texas. Raft or canoe down the Rio Grande. Enjoy a guided horseback ride or jeep tour through the rugged west Texas landscape. With so many options, you can return home as relaxed or exhausted as you choose. Either way, you'll “getaway” from everyday life and bring back countless memories.

The Point-A-View Cabin is a secluded, solar-powered cabin nestled against the West Corazón Peak. This rugged off grid cabin is located down a rocky, dirt road, perfect for folks who love quiet, privacy, and natural beauty! We're about an hour drive from the National Park and Terlingua Ghost Town, but close to the Terlingua Ranch Lodge, which offers a pool, bath-house, restaurant, and laundromat. If you love solitude, dirt roads, big skies, watching wildlife, and stargazing, you'll love it here!
The Point-A-View cabin is a work in progress, but a fully functioning off grid retreat. We are located high in the Corazones Mountains, where wildlife abounds and neighbors are sparse. This house is perfect for folks who love to camp, but want a few more creature comforts and modern conveniences! The house has an open Wi-Fi network for communication, a wood stove and propane heaters, a full sized gas stove and oven, a small refrigerator/freezer, and cold running water. The tap water is from a rainwater cistern, which we refill with well water as needed. There's no water heater on the system at this time. The tap water isn't suitable for drinking, but each reservation will have a five gallon jug of filtered water for drinking and cooking. We recommend boiling the tap water to wash dishes. The cabin has an open floorplan. One bedroom downstairs can be used for more privacy, but there is also a full sized bed (futon) in the downstairs living room, a queen sized bed in the loft upstairs, and a large quilted hammock upstairs in the screened porch. Summers in Terlingua are HOT and the cabin isn't air conditioned, but thanks to it's elevation and shaded location the Cabin tends to stay cooler than other homes in the area. If you're sensitive to the heat, please consider looking for a place to stay that is on the grid with air conditioning. Winters on the mountain can be surprisingly cold, as well. The cabin isn't insulated, but under most circumstances it can be kept warm and cozy with the woodstove and propane heaters. We recommend bringing firewood if you plan to use the woodstove for heat. In the rare situation when the weather's cold and WET, the steel structure can collect condensation inside. If you have any questions, please reach out to us. We're happy to answer anything, and offer advice if needed.
Our scenic and remote location is fantastic for enjoying nature all around you, but if you're planning on visiting the National or State Parks, or the Terlingua Ghost Town, please be prepared to drive at least an hour. For us locals, driving long distances every day is a way of life that we're very used to, but it can be a surprise to folks who are visiting the area for the first time!
Nós amamos a sensação rústica do lugar.

Nós amamos a fogueira ea rede no andar superior. A casa acomoda confortavelmente 4 pessoas.

Adorei o jogo Cards Against Humanity, e adorei a experiência “off the grid” com energia solar.

    Moses2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • All'n'all Area 118 foi um ótimo lugar para ficar.

Desert Aura: Classic adobe with detached guest house. Two miles from Terlingua Ranch Pool.
EXTRA FEES MAY APPLY. These might not appear in quote and will be added if applicable. Extra Guest Fee: $10 nightly for the 5th and 6th guests. Extra Space Cleaning Fee: $35 per stay if the Guest House is added. The Guesthouse is required for any groups larger than four and optional for any groups wanting extra space. Desert Aura is a classic adobe home with a detached guesthouse. Book just the main house or add the guesthouse for just a small cleaning fee. Breathtaking Views of the Chisos Mountains and Terlingua Ranch. Desert Aura offers unique character and charm that can’t be duplicated with modern construction. Lovingly built by hand, over many years, by the family that still proudly calls it home. Thick adobe walls, stone floors, and surrounded by stone patios with unparalleled views of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park, Desert Aura lives up to its name by emanating the very character of Terlingua Ranch and the Big Bend. You will feel like you are part of the desert as you live like a true local here on Terlingua Ranch. Not many vacation rentals come with their own guest house. You will have the option of just renting the main house and leaving the guest house vacant or renting both. The main house will sleep up to four, with a queen-sized bed and a full-size fold out sofa bed. If there is one or two in your group, the main house is all you’d ever need. If you have three or four, you can use the fold out sofa bed in the semi-private den, or add the guesthouse for some extra room and added privacy. If your group has five or six, the main house plus the guest house will accommodate all of you with comfort and charm. Don’t worry though, the guest house is never rented separately. If you don’t rent it, nobody else will be there during your stay. You will have the entire compound all to yourselves. The two homes are separated by a shaded breezeway that is an ideal place to relax outside or even share a meal. Views from the breezeway and the other patio areas are simply breathtaking. Wildlife is abundant and water and birdseed is provided for the birds. Please don’t straighten out the bent “shepherd’s hook” bird feeder holder. The home’s matriarch cherishes that bent hook as a reminder of the time that a Mexican Black Bear dropped by to sample the bird seed and bent the hook. Don’t worry though, the bears are extremely uncommon here. They are very timid and have never threatened anyone in the area. Mexican Black Bears are among the smallest of the bear species in North America, rarely exceeding five feet in length or three feet in height at the shoulder. The main house has an open floorplan with a living room, dining room, and kitchen all open to each other. Perfect for spending time together. There is also a semi-private den that is ideal for a bit of privacy or for use as a second bedroom. The master bedroom has a comfortable queen bed and antique armoire. The bathroom with a large tiled shower and ample counter space is located between the bedroom and den and opens to both. There is even a utility room with a washer and dryer for use during your stay. The guesthouse, if you should choose to add it to your rental, has a studio layout with a single room housing a queen bed, dining area, and kitchenette. There is also a private bathroom with a combination shower and tub. Stone floors and southwestern styling create a welcoming retreat. Thick adobe walls and separation from the main house provide guests with plenty of privacy during their stay. Desert Aura is located just two miles from Terlingua Ranch Lodge. Guests will have use of the Terlingua Ranch pool for a small fee of $5 per carload per day. The lodge also offers a great little restaurant, The Bad Rabbit Café, with frequent live entertainment. Guests can register at the lodge for access to the Christmas Mountain conservation area, a 9,270 acre reserve owned by the Texas State University System. Vehicle access along a narrow jeep trail is permitted for only one vehicle at a time. Hikers can park at the trailhead. Big Bend National Park, Terlingua, and the Terlingua Ghost Town are just a 40 minute drive away. Lajitas and Big Bend Ranch State Park are about an hour away. Adventure outfitters in Terlingua offer river trips in canoes or rafts, jeep tours, guided hikes, horseback tours, ATV tours, Jeep rentals, and mountain bike rentals. Terlingua, the Ghost Town, and Lajitas offer a variety of dining, drinking, and live music venues, plus shopping and art galleries. While here, live like a local. There are ample adventures to keep you busy and leave you exhausted, or just relax around Desert Aura to escape the stresses of “civilized” life.
If you rely on medically necessary electronic devices, we would be happy to recommend a different property. A remote rental home for rugged guests with a thirst for adventure. Four miles from the Christmas Mountains trail and the Terlingua Ranch pool. A million miles from city life. Huffman Pond Cabin is the probably the most remote and secluded vacation rental in the Terlingua area. This is THE place to be if you truly wish to escape the trappings and stresses of “civilization”. This is NOT a typical vacation rental home. It is an off-grid home powered by solar electricity. The remote location may scare off some tourists, but true outdoors enthusiasts and nature lovers that aren’t deterred by a rough road and lack of AC will be richly rewarded. Bonuses for the rugged adventurers include unparalleled seclusion, amazing views, diverse wildlife and plant life, stunning night skies, rugged hiking, a spectacular canyon, several bluffs, impressive and varied geologic features, a private pond that holds water most of the time. You will have access to the pool at the Terlingua Ranch lodge and the Christmas Mountains hiking trail. When you’re done exploring and enjoying the natural wonders of the Huffman Pond property and surrounding area, you can retreat into the cabin. The cabin is built with stone and steel and designed for comfort, convenience, and relaxation. The original stone cabin and the flagstone floor for the entire house was built in the 70’s. The current owner expanded the original stone cabin by adding a modern living area and kitchen on what had been the large flagstone patio. The original stone cabin was converted into a very comfortable and spacious bedroom and bathroom. Large windows on the south and east walls of the bedroom provide excellent views of Dynamite Bluff, Little Sombrero Peak, and panoramic desert scenery. The modern living area was added in 2010 and features an open floor plan living room, dining and kitchen. The most impressive thing about the living area is the amazing views through the many large windows. No need for wall art here. The desert provides ever changing and inspiring beauty. Less noticed, but very important are the awning windows on the northern wall, above the stone wall of the bedroom. During the summer, these windows allow hot air to escape and create a cooling convection current when one or two lower windows are opened on the shaded sides of the house. If you’re addicted to modern AC, this is not the place for you during the summer. Most folks attracted to this type of property and the Big Bend will enjoy it year round, but certainly much more so in the cooler months. A little history about Huffman Pond Cabin: The original owner, Ben Huffman, started building the stone cabin in 1971. He also built a stone shed just behind the small hill beside the cabin. The stone shed was behind the hill because it was used for storing dynamite. That’s right, dynamite! The rather eccentric Mr. Huffman was determined to create a pond in the valley below the cabin. He tried, and tried, and tried to accomplish this by blowing up and collapsing the bluff at the end of the valley. His hope was that it would form a natural dam. Despite his repeated efforts, the bluff, now named “Dynamite Bluff” did not yield. He ultimately hired a bulldozer to dig out the current pond and create an earthen dam. Ben had quite a reputation in the area and could often be seen riding around the ranch roads or cross country on a small motorcycle with a rifle strapped to the handlebars and dynamite strapped behind the seat. All the dynamite has been safely removed or long since detonated. However, walk out onto “Echo Ridge” that overlooks the valley, the pond and Dynamite Bluff and you may just hear the low rumble of explosions long past. If not, just shout or clap and listen for the response.

Enjoy the morning sunrise on the porch while gazing at the breathtaking mountain views, the desert flora and fauna. This property also boasts 118 acres which makes for a peaceful experience, no neighbors, great hiking and the star gazing is just fabulous.  Another great feature is that this cabin is only .2 miles from Tx Hwy. 118 and 8 miles North of town, and a 15 minute drive to the Big Bend National Park entrance. If you're looking for a tranquil experience then this is the place for you.
My cabin is equipped with wifi and also has a landline for local calls. It has a queen size luxurious mesquite bed with high quality sheets and bedding. I also have his & her robes in case you forget yours. The bedroom also has a flat screen tv with DISH as the provider. The tv will also oscillate into the kitchen area. The kitchen has full size refrigerator, and stove with oven and also has a dishwasher. It has a coffee maker, toaster, microwave and comes completely stocked which includes dishes, cookware, glassware, silverware, cookie sheets and bowls. I do provide coffee, decaf coffee and tea. There is an RO system under the kitchen sink. This cabin also has a full size washer and dryer which I provide soap, bleach and fabric softener for. You will want to bring your own toiletries. I do provide bar soap, and towels. I have a large fire ring outside and sometimes will supply wood if I have it available. There is also a propane grill and a charcoal grill which I provide charcoal, lighter fluid and cooking utensils for. There are a few walking sticks inside in case you would like to go an adventure and explore the property. If I do not have something you need it can probably be purchased at the Cottonwood General Store in town.
Just a 10 minute drive from the cabin you will find gas, groceries, banking, restaurants, shopping and local outfitters. Another 5 minute drive and you will be in the Terlingua Ghost Town which offers a variety of restaurants and shopping and the infamous "porch" where you can sit and enjoy a beverage and watch the reverse sunset on the Chisos Mountains where every now and then the locals will grace us with their live music. If you like photography be sure and bring your camera. This is truly an amazing place to take pictures. Just 15 minutes West of the Ghost Town lies Lajitas, a beautiful town with a boardwalk of shops, a restaurant and bar and offers zip lining if you're into that. It also has a convenience store with gasoline.

Crystal Valley Cabin: Modern-rustic cabin on Terlingua Ranch. Outdoor tub. Seven miles from pool.
EXTRA FEES MAY APPLY. These might not appear in quote and will be added if applicable. Extra Guest Fee: $10 nightly for the 5th guest. Crystal Valley is newly renovated in 2017 for vacation rentals. Relax inside or outside and enjoy the mountain views. Crystal Valley Cabin on Terlingua Ranch is the ideal home base for your visit to the Big Bend Region. Modern-rustic design will set the perfect tone for your Big Bend adventure. The convenient location and easy access will allow you to focus on your vacation instead of stressing about vehicle access or long drives down questionable roads. The surprising seclusion will provide ample privacy and solitude. But, let’s not kid ourselves, the best thing about Crystal Valley Cabin is the chance to take a bath in an antique clawfoot tub under the Texas night sky. Do you even need to read the rest of this property description? Still reading? Okay, some more details would help. Besides, there’s much more that we want brag about. After soaking in the tub while watching meteors fall, satellites fly overhead, and the Milky Way shine, you’ll probably want to relax around the campfire with a refreshing beverage, maybe even a sausage on a stick, or better yet, some s’mores. Whatever you eat and drink around the fire ring, will go well with campfire stories, some songs, or whatever else you want to do. Nobody is watching. It’s just you and your partner, or family and friends, under a starry Texas sky. You’re probably ready to stop reading now and just book your stay already. Fine with us, but we really should tell you a bit more. The ramada (no, not the cookie-cutter-hotel-chain, but a freestanding shade structure) beside the outdoor tub is the perfect spot to enjoy the cooling breezes on sunny afternoons, or to share a meal while admiring the mountain views. There’s also an outdoor shower and sink there. The porches at Crystal Valley Cabin are also great places to relax in the shade while catching a breeze and marveling at the views. Eventually, you may want to come inside. We recommend it anyway. You don’t have to and we won’t blame you if spend all your time outside. However, the bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room are pretty darn great, and useful, if you’re into that sort of thing. The master bedroom has a really comfortable queen bed with high quality linens and a bedframe that was hand built from a persimmon tree. The bedroom windows have a stunning view of East Corazón Peak. The second bedroom, with a view of Jack Eden Mesa, has a wood-framed bunkbed with a full bed on the bottom and twin bed on the top. The bathroom has a spacious tile shower (for those that prefer bathing inside). The large kitchen has ample counter and cabinet space, glass top electric range and oven, microwave, coffee maker, large fridge, bar counter, and a large picture window with a fantastic view of Jack Eden Mesa and crystal valley. The living room ties it all together with large leather easy chairs, a leather sofa, wood burning stove, large ceiling fans, and a breathtaking view of East Corazón Peak. There is even a branch from the property owner’s Madrone Tree hanging on the wall, just because it’s cool. If you need a place where you can focus on a little work (yeah right!), do some writing, or just get online without too many distractions, there is built in desk in the corner of the living room. Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the home and on the porches. Of course, after bathing under the stars, telling stories by the campfire, sleeping in the comfy beds, and relaxing in the living room, then logging onto social media to share your fun with all your friends, you might want to check out some of the amazing things to see and do in the area. Soak in our tub under the stars. Enjoy the Big Bend. Do as much or as little as you like. You’ll have a memorable time and will likely start planning your return trip before you even leave. That’s great. We’ll love to have come back over and over. In fact, that’s how the owners of Crystal Valley Cabin became the owners. They came out here so often and enjoyed staying at other Big Bend Vacation Rental properties so much that they eventually decide to buy and remodel their own. They were very deliberate and considerate in incorporating all the thing they enjoyed the most at other rentals, plus adding extra touches to create the ultimate Big Bend vacation home base. Now, they’re eager to share it all with you.
The adobe is perched high on the edge of Jack Eden Mesa in the Chihuahuan Desert. The rustic adobe overlooks the historic Comanche Trail and is built near an ancient Indian campsite as evidenced by metate's, stacked rocks and a petroglyph. This is a very remote location and will provide you with a unique, wild west experience not available many other places. The one room cabin has 4 twin beds. All water is captured rainwater and must be used conservatively. There is limited cell phone service.
The mailing address is Alpine, but we are 85 miles south of there in Terlingua Ranch. This is NOT in Terlingua Ghost Town. It is almost an hour from there. This home is remote and off-grid - about a 20 minute drive from the paved road. The road up the mesa is rough, but my wife makes it just fine in her Honda Civic. It is about a 50 minute drive to Terlingua Ghost Town and an hour drive to the west entrance of Big Bend National Park. This is a unique place for an adventurer to really get away and get a taste of the area. It will be a rustic experience - much better than camping, but still rough-cut. It is very quiet here if you like that, or you can make as much noise as you want. There is no one nearby! The adobe features 4 twin beds, cushioned window seats, a table and 4 chairs. There is an indoor bathroom and a kitchen area. Linens and towels are provided. The shower is solar heated, so there is not much hot water available---none in the winter. The kitchen has a refrigerator (no freezer) and a gas stove top (no oven). It is stocked with cookware, plates, glasses and flatware. There is a stovetop percolator and a kettle. Coffee, tea and hot cocoa are provided. We also provide a "Mesa Mini Mart" box stocked with things people often forget and can purchase economically for their convenience. There is a wood burning stove that keeps the adobe very cozy in the winter. We have plenty of scrap wood available to burn. In the summer, we have a couple of rotating floor fans that help. The adobe walls are 14" thick and provide a passive thermal mass for heating and cooling. We are members of the Terlingua Ranch Lodge nearby (14 miles) where you can swim and take showers for $5 a carload. They have a restaurant that is open selected times. You can also take a shower at the motel in Study Butte (Big Bend Resort) for $2. This is right on the way to or from the National Park. All water in the adobe is captured rainwater and is in limited supply. There is an indoor shower, but showers must be very short so there will be water available for other guests. We only get about 8" of rain a year. We have filtered water for drinking, but if you are not comfortable with that, you might want to bring your own drinking water. Bring your own food. The nearest grocery store and gasoline is in Study Butte, about 45 minutes away. Also, you should fill up your car in Alpine and get last minute supplies there. The closer you get to the National Park, the more expensive everything is! The house has solar power for lights and a CD player. You can charge your phone with our inverter. Your cell phone may not work in the house - but it might work outside in some places. In fact, once you drive south from Alpine, your service will get more and more sporadic. There are no TV, DVD or other electric appliances. We do have cards, poker chips and dominos. If you have extra guests, we have 4 additional twin beds in a trailer near the adobe. It is very simple accommodations, but has a commode, sink and lighting. You can also charge a phone in the trailer.
This site has amazing 360 degree views including the Chisos and Rosillo Mountains in Big Bend National Park and Nine Points Mesa and Santiago Peak to the north. Be aware that if you are bringing children under 10, this place is dangerous because of the cliff near the house! When we say it is perched on the edge, we mean it. We do not recommend climbing the rocks near the edge. One small step and you have about a 90 foot freefall before you hit the cactus and roll an additional 500 feet to the desert floor! Of course, there are rattlesnakes and other biting, stinging things. We are 1.5 hours from the nearest hospital.
