Comfortable, light-filled one bedroom apartment on a 10 acre farm in Maryland near Antietam battlefield and Harpers Ferry, WV. We have chickens, an organic garden, hills, woods and a stream. Apartment is 15 minutes from Harpers Ferry, Antietam battlefield, the C&O canal, river rafting on the Potomac or Shenandoah, horseback riding, vineyards, the Appalachian trail and small towns including Boonsboro, MD and Shepherdstown, WV. 30 minutes to Frederick or Hagerstown/1.5 hours to DC or Baltimore.
The apartment is up a flight of stairs, with approximately 12 steps. It has one queen bed and one fold-out sofa, with a full kitchen and bathroom, all separate from the main house. Several restaurants are about 15 to 20 minutes away in Shepherdstown, WV, Brunswick or Boonsboro, MD, which has the closest grocery store/pharmacy. Frederick and Hagerstown are each about 30 minutes away. Stay in and relax or explore our woods and creek. Walk in the garden to view what vegetables or fruits are producing. People of all backgrounds are welcome here. John Brown, the famous abolitionist, planned his raid from a farm about a half-mile down our road. James Brown, Etta James, Marvin Gaye and many other performers played at a dance hall on that same site in the 1950's/ early 1960's. We are less than an hour and a half from Washington D.C., a little further from Baltimore, and about 3 hours from Richmond, Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.
We are in a mountainous area of Washington County on a country road. But we are within 20 minutes of several lovely small towns, with a diverse bunch of restaurants and cafes. We are also very close to the C&O canal and the Appalachian trail, the Potomac river, and a great winery.

The Master Suite in this antebellum church-turned-getaway is cozy and unique, a respite for hikers and bikers seeking solace along nearby trails or Civil War history buffs looking for a rustic getaway. Our modest Abbey offers basic, no-frills amenities in a rural area with historic significance. Guests are walking distance from the Appalachian Trail, C&O Canal, and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. A nearby train station can also take business travelers to Washington D.C. in an hour.
The Abbey itself was home to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran congregation until about the 1970's. The previous owners began converting it into a single family dwelling after they acquired it from the congregation, reimagining the choir loft as open living space and adding a third floor to serve as a loft. The stone structure and six stained glass windows were diligently preserved, and french doors were added to provide access to a back porch with south-facing views overlooking the Potomac River valley. We acquired it in 2018 and added several improvements, including new exterior paint, gutters, water heater, and HVAC with smart thermostats. The Master Suite is on the first floor, tucked away from the busiest parts of the house with its own bathroom. The bed is a Sleep Number full/double mattress made with flannel sheets and plenty of pillows. An oak desk can accommodate business travelers or writers on retreat and the large vanity opens up space and multiplies the light coming in from two stained glass windows. Our family includes small children and two friendly dogs, and guests are welcome to share as much or little time with us as they please. We love offering hospitality but be advised you will be sharing space with us, it is not a home to yourself. To maximize your experience, let us know what you're looking for in terms of privacy and interaction and we will try to make it happen. The kitchen and laundry are available for guests, but keep in mind fridge space may be limited (that's part of the reason we limit reservations to three nights or less). We provide light snacks and coffee stuff inside the room, but no meals are provided with your reservation. You're welcome to join us for dinners, just let us know if we can expect you.
Knoxville, Maryland is an unincorporated village that was trapped in time when the railroad companies decided against putting a train station there. As a historic district, it contributes significant value to the surrounding area and many buildings, including the former Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, have been carefully preserved. The 1848 cornerstone of this converted church suggests that its Lutheran congregation was one of the first to arrive when Knoxville was an antebellum boom town. As indicated by a second, western cornerstone, the congregation moved to the current site in 1873 after the Civil War. The village eventually settled into peaceful mediocrity after the Civil War when the railway station and its industrial clamor went to nearby Brunswick. Knoxville peaked in the 1920s as a Prohibition-snubbing distiller's paradise but declined quickly after alcohol became legal once again. The church shuttered in the 1970s and the building was rehabilitated in the early 2000s as a country getaway. Just a brisk walk along the Potomac River from the tourist attractions in Harpers Ferry, WV makes the Appalachian Abbey a great place for hikers, bikers, and pilgrims.

This Cottage House is located near the Potomac River in quaint Knoxville, MD. It is very close to Harpers Ferry, WV, Antietam National Battlefield, historic Sharpsburg, MD, the C&O canal and other local attractions. There are 2 homes available on the property. This cottage has a rustic charm and includes a full modern kitchen with island seating for 3, 1 full bath, 2 half baths, washer/dryer and sleeps 8 comfortably. Pets are welcomed (small fee) but must be crated when unattended.
NOTE: We did initially have an issue with a sulfur odor in the hot water only. While the water is, and was, perfectly safe, we have now replaced the water heater and treated the hot water so the condition has been corrected. The unit offers a large open space for enjoyable social gatherings and views of the mountain. The common area has oak hardwood flooring, and the bedrooms are floored with laminate/carpet. A front porch offers additional space for relaxing and entertaining, and the adjacent "nest" deck (shared by both houses) provides wonderful views of the mountains. The living area includes a convertible sofa that sleeps 2 comfortably on a new Ikea sleeper sofa. The bedrooms on the main floor have new memory foam queen size beds. The main level also provides a full bath with tub/shower combo, and an additional half bath. The quaint upstairs loft has full size bed and a half bath. All the furnishings and linens are new!
Just 2 miles from the property, nestled in the rising foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains next to the Potomac River sits the Victorian railroad town of Brunswick. Conveniently located approximately 60 minutes from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Brunswick boasts glorious homes, an active city center, shopping, historical sites, a one of a kind railroad museum, dining and recreational activities. Brunswick is very proud of its rich transportation heritage and you can experience it for yourself by visiting the Brunswick Railroad Museum or participating in Brunswick Railroad Days in October, featuring live entertainment, train rides, model train show, crafters, food, and much more. Because the Potomac River is only a short walk from the downtown shops, recreational opportunities abound. The waterfront offers fishing, boating, camping, kayaking and canoeing, and the C&O Canal towpath is excellent for hikers, bikers and horseback riders. Finally, no visit to Brunswick is complete without stopping by Beans in the Belfry, a café located in a 100 year old, historic, restored church building nestled in downtown Brunswick.

The main property, often referred to as Right is Right Farm, was previously owned by the Lovell family who lived there for over three generations. The cottage remained vacant since the early 1970's and had one bath and a second winding service staircase in the back. The original wood siding, shutters, plaster, trim and wood flooring was fully restored.

Chestnut House is a restored early 19th century farmhouse cradled by beautiful rolling hills on a gravel country road. A creek gurgles in the front yard, woods loaded with birds, and a chestnut orchard are on the other three sides of the house. A big red barn - no animals - and re-purposed dairy parlor also sit on the property. The house has a large kitchen with double oven, lots of counter space, and a big farm kitchen table for all to share. There are two large rooms downstairs, bay window and fireplace, the other with plenty of space to stretch out for some yoga and board games. The front porch is wide and lovely, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the peace. Walking trails and the country road provide breathtaking views, birds of all sorts, and the Catoctin Creek is home to big blue herons, eagles, beaver, and plenty of rich plant life - a feast for the senses! Antiques, civil war history, rock climbing, canoeing along the Potomac or Shenandoah Rivers, minor league baseball, art studios, outlet shopping, mountain biking and so much more are all within 15-20 minutes of the house. Plenty of wineries, cideries, and distilleries are within 10-30 minutes away. The farm office is inside the house, so the phone will ring occasionally, thought we try to turn the ringer off when guests are here. If we are holding classes out in the barn, you will see other folks around. Check in with us to see what is happening the weekend of your stay. You might want to join in the fun. Your stay supports farm programs that we offer children and adults from low income communities, people suffering with PTSD, and other life challenges.
Chestnut House sits along a gravel country road surrounded by fields, woods, and streams. There are a few houses up the road, but you are unlikely to see many people - mostly wildlife. Places to eat within a 5 minute drive include Ingram's Diner, an ice cream and sandwich cafe, Jefferson Pastry Shop, and Watsons chicken carry out. There is a small grocery in town, but a Safeway in Middletown or the Common Market and other grocery stores are in Frederick and will offer more options. The Appalachian Trail is a short drive (15-20 minutes) and offers great hiking and rock climbing. Bicyclists love it out here! Harper's Ferry is about a 15-20 minute drive and there's plenty of history, whitewater rafting and tubing, and quaint shops and flea markets to explore. Frederick offers an abundance of restaurants, art galleries, shops, live entertainment, museums, parks, and a triple A baseball team to watch. Brunswick is a great place to hop on the C&O bike path, grab some coffee and a homemade meal at Beans in the Belfry. There are many artists in the Middletown Valley, as well as historic sites to explore.
Recomendaria definitivamente estadia no Fox Haven

Amei as galinhas.
