Discounts available on stays of 3+ nights during October to February. Simply click on CONTACT HOST below to enquire. Our lovely holiday home, Mary's Cottage, is set in the beautiful North Northumberland countryside just a few miles from the Scottish Borders. In a peaceful village it offers country walks from the door, and combines tranquility and style with warmth and comfort. The perfect romantic, rural retreat at any time of the year.
Our cosy, romantic cottage has been renovated and insulated to a high standard. We've used gentle Farrow & Ball colours, comfy sofas and bed plus beautiful pieces of art by local artists to create a lovely, relaxing environment. The cottage is our own holiday home and as we don't live locally we employ a housekeeper to clean and prepare for our guests. This means you can expect a high standard of cleanliness and professionally laundered bedding and towels. LIVING/DINING ROOM: Comfy sofas to snuggle on, a log burner with fuel supplied and a cosy corner for dining. There's a wide range of books and DVDs (including some about the history of the local area), Country Living and Dog Friendly magazines, games and colouring books with coloured pens/pencils for time spent relaxing indoors. KITCHEN: Well equipped and modern, the kitchen contains a large fridge-freezer, a wine fridge, dishwasher, single oven with induction hob* and a microwave. Complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, sweetener, herb teas and a basic range of herbs, spices and cooking oil are supplied. (*Please note that the British Heart Foundation recommends that people with a heart pacemaker should get no closer than 60cm to an induction hob). UTILITY ROOM: The utility room houses a washing machine (washing capsules supplied) and separate tumble dryer, iron and table-top ironing board plus room for coats, boots/shoes and doggy paraphernalia (bowls for food and water, poo bags, tick remover and shampoo). A fire blanket, fire extinguisher, basic first aid kit, insect repellent, sunscreen lotion and torches are also kept in here. BEDROOM: Comfortable double bed with Egyptian cotton bedding, plenty of hanging/drawer space for clothes and remote controlled bedside lights. SHOWER ROOM: Modern shower/wet room with underfloor heating and a heated towel rail. We provide fluffy towels and quality toiletries including shampoo and conditioner, body wash and body lotion. TECHNOLOGY: Free wi-fi. Television with DVD player and eclectic mix of DVDs. Chromecast: enables you to 'cast' your favourite TV shows, films, music, sport, games and more from your phone or other mobile devices straight to our TV. Hepburn radio which enables you to play music etc from your mobile/tablet via Bluetooth by simply downloading the View Quest app. OUTSIDE: At the back of the house is a sunny south-facing area for sitting out, with table and chairs provided. The stone bench outside the front door is the perfect spot to sit on a summer's evening with a glass of wine to watch the sun setting. The side/rear area is gated and secure for dogs. Guests have access to a lockable outbuilding enabling secure storage of fishing rods, bikes etc. We have left our own bikes and cycling helmets in the outbuilding and guests are welcome to use them AT THEIR OWN RISK. We've also left folding chairs, a windbreak and a coolbox for picnics and days out at Northumberland's coast. The house is situated on a quiet road just a short walk from the centre of the village of Branxton with its charming village hall, beautiful 12th century church, the 'smallest visitors' centre in the world' and a way-marked walking route around the historic Flodden battlefield. The village, with just 60 dwellings and no shops or pubs of its own, is surrounded by farmland making it wonderfully free from traffic noise and unusually peaceful, especially in the evening. FACILITIES FOR BABIES: A high chair is available upon request. DOGS: Two small or one medium sized well-behaved dogs are welcome but, for the sake of our other guests we'd appreciate it if you would try to keep them out of the bedroom and off the furniture. We provide dog towels, bowls, torches for late night wee-walks and a supply of emergency poo bags. There's also a handy outside tap for cleaning up boots and paws after muddy walks. Please mention if you are bringing your dog at the time of booking so we can leave them some treats. PARKING: Parking on the quiet road right outside the cottage is free and unlimited. The area behind the property is our neighbour's access route to/from his garage so must be left clear at all times.
The peaceful village of Branxton is perfectly positioned for exploring the Northumberland National park, walking in the Cheviot Hills, fishing on the Tweed, or visiting Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and the Farnes. It is just a few miles from the border with Scotland and roughly equidistant from the lovely market town of Kelso with its Flemish-style square and coastal Berwick-upon-Tweed. The cottage is also a perfect base for trips to explore the wonderful cities of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Edinburgh as they are both just over an hour's drive away. The village itself is rich in history being adjacent to site of the Battle of Flodden, fought in 1513. The battlefield trail, with interpretation boards explaining the stages of the battle which led to the tragic death of James IV of Scotland, provides a fascinating walk around the area with beautiful views over the village and across the countryside. There are many other lovely walks to be taken direct from the cottage or just a short drive away and OS maps of the area are provided for guests' use. We also provide a selection of books and DVDs about the history of the area, the Battle of Flodden and the Border Reivers who raided the entire Border country along the Anglo-Scottish border from the late 13th century to the 17th century.

You will have exclusive use of the ground floor bathroom while here but the shower is on the first floor. Also included are towels /free wi-fi /car parking /secure storage for cycles/ out of site motorcycle parking. Tea/coffee making & use of kitchen (by prior arrangement) The house is about 1 mile from the A697 road to Edinburgh (48mls) and the Berwick -Galashiels bus stops almost outside. There are castles, stately homes, fishing, ruined abbeys and beautiful countryside and the area is good for walks, cycling or just relaxing. The beach is about 20miles away
This is a small but friendly village, 5 miles from Kelso & 3mls from Coldstream. Berwick can be reached by bus every two hours.

Ground floor bedrooms with shared bathroom on same floor. The shower room is on the first floor. The house is 13 years old and is built upside down, ie the lounge & kitchen are upstairs.

Altamente recomendado.

The cottage sits just 3.5 miles from Cornhill-on-Tweed which has an excellent village shop selling a super selection of fresh local produce, including picnic hampers and scrummy home baking. It is also home to the highly regarded Collingwood Arms which has a pub as well as a superb restaurant for lingering lunches or fine evening dining. Alternatively, pop your wellies on and take a fifteen minute stroll over the field and woodland margins to the popular Bluebell Inn for a relaxing drink after supper. A more extensive range of shops, pubs and cafes can be found in the quaint market town of Coldstream (5 miles) where the shopping is small and friendly with a good mix of independent outlets running the length of the High Street, including a family butchers, fruit and veg shop, bakery and small Co-op supermarket for holiday provisions. The Coldstream Gallery is a lovely spot to browse art, ceramics and jewellery by local designers; or pop into Calico Interiors for lifestyle gifts and accessories before coffee and cake at the charmingly named ‘Mad Hatter’ nearby. A number of larger supermarkets, including a Marks & Spencers food outlet can be found in the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (13 miles), or picturesque Kelso (14 miles) which has an excellent selection of independent shops set around a Flemish style market square. The cottage is located in the heart of North Northumberland and is exceptionally well placed for exploring the wider area. Seven miles in one direction will take you to the edge of the Northumberland National Park, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty with over 400 square miles of stunning landscapes, criss-crossed by over 700 miles of walking, biking and riding trails which follow the routes of ancient cattle drovers, taking in Iron Age stone fortifications and traces of Bronze Age hillforts amidst the tranquil and rugged landscape. Hop into your walking boots and you can join Northumberland Park Rangers for a guided walk from Wooler where you will learn much about the heritage and wildlife of the area, or follow sections of St. Cuthbert’s Way and enjoy some outstanding vistas along the route as it winds its way to the dune-fringed sands on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. For cycling, you will find everything from gentle low-level meanders to big hill country treks, including long-distance routes such as the Pennine Cycleway or the cycle challenges of the Wooler Wheel Hub. For families, the Breamish Valley is a popular area with pretty river picnic spots where children can paddle, followed by a walk to the lovely waterfall at Linhope Spout where you may even spot some wild Cheviot goats along the way. Alternatively, a warm welcome awaits you at Ford & Etal Estates (3 miles) which has a super range of family friendly activities with over twenty attractions to explore. Take a ride on Bunty on the very charming 15” gauge steam railway, follow the mouse trail around the Heatherslaw Corn mill or there is fishing, canoeing, cycle hire and a riding centre all nearby. For art lovers, a must-visit is the pre-Raphaelite murals at the Lady Waterford Hall, or explore the ruins of Etal Castle or the local heritage sites of nearby Flodden or Duddo Standing Stones, Northumberland’s equivalent of Stonehenge. The stunning heritage coastline is just a short half-hour drive away with miles of pristine sandy beaches, jolly pubs serving the freshest fish and chips, and picture postcard coastal villages with charming galleries and gift shops. Experience the exhilarating thrill of kitesurfing at Bamburgh, coasteering at Beadnell or perhaps just the simple pleasures of a picnic and a game of beach cricket on sands which remain almost deserted even in the summer months. History buffs will be enchanted by the rich heritage of the area, where dramatic castles and grand stately homes punctuate the landscape here, including imposing Bamburgh perched on its rocky outcrop above Bamburgh Beach; Alnwick, star of the Harry Potter films; or Chillingham, said to be the most haunted castle in Britain and home to the only wild cattle in the world. Fishing is available on the River Till about a ten minute drive and is one of the area's best kept secrets with an impressive sea trout run each spring said to be the best in the country. Trout permits are available for as little as £5 per day and rods, reels and waders can be hired locally.

Whippet Lodge is a beautifully cosy yet deceptively large, traditional stone cottage in the ancient village of Swinton. Once belonging to the Swinton family, and built from local 'Swinton Pink' sandstone, the cottage is steps from spectacular countryside - perfect for walkers, photographers, artists and nature lovers. There is a dog friendly pub serving quality food just across road. Dog friendly with a large enclosed rear garden, we are well located for both the Borders and Northumberland.
Whippet Lodge owners, Musician and Songwriter Gary and Illustrator and Designer Helen, find the cottage the perfect place to relax, work and be inspired. The peace and quiet is priceless, and they'd like to share their bolt-hole with you when they aren't using it. Gary and Helen are happy to be able to let out the whole house to up to four guests, and if you'd like to bring your pet, the charge is £10 per animal per stay. The décor is colourful yet relaxing, and reflects the surrounding area and wildlife, as well as the couple's love for vintage and the unusual. Whippet Lodge has many thoughtful touches such as a slow cooker, so that explorers can have a hot meal waiting for them when they return from their adventures, a Tassimo coffee machine (and otherwise fully equipped kitchen), doggy towels, bowls and blankets, spare duvets for those chillier evenings, remote controlled heaters so guests can have their room toasty warm before getting out of bed and a lovely old deep enamel bath to soak in. Other amenities include a fully working open fire, with a starter supply of kindling and logs, a selection of herbal teas, as well as a start up of milk, tea and coffee, a selection of DVD's, games and jigsaws, WI-FI, and an Amazon Firestick so that guests can log into their favourite TV and Film apps on the big screen.
Swinton dates to the 11th century or earlier, and is associated with the Swinton family, who took their name from the settlement. In 1769, the village was re-designed and a market was created, now marked by the market cross. (Whippet Lodge was built some time between then and 1865, which is as far back as records allow at present). A parish church was built and still stands today. In the churchyard, the Swintons have their own burial enclosure. In 1843, the Free Church of Swinton was built, but in the 1900s the spire was removed and it became the local village hall. According to oral tradition, the name of the village is derived from the number of wild boars the land was once infested with. Swinton House, 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the village, dates in its current form to 1800, and was the residence of many of the Swinton family. It was built to replace an earlier house, which was destroyed by fire in the late 18th century. Both the house and the nearby 18th century dovecote are protected as category A listed buildings. There is a very pleasant pub, The Wheatsheaf, which serves good quality food and drink, just across the road from The Green. A small children's play area, picnic tables and football nets are also on The Green, just outside Whippet Lodge in fact. Almost like having your own private park, with the kids in view and calling distance.

A warm, welcoming home in a great walking, cycling and wild life area. Adjacent to the river Tweed for the best salmon and trout fishing. 18 hole golf course in walking distance. Convenient for Marriage Rooms in historic Coldstream and 15 minutes from A1. Oodles of history, music events, art and craft workers in this area. Mid way between Edinburgh & Newcastle so a good stopping off point for travellers. Public transport is not good so own transport advised.
A place that you instantly feel at home in. I converted a derelict 1750's ish cart shed and storage into a home and photographic studio in 1997 so it oozes past times with modern comforts.
Coldstream is a throwback in time. People have time for each other, look you in the eye and say hello. This postcode was rated "the safest in England" sic. No parking meters, very rare to spot a traffic warden. We live in the old part of our historic small town (2000 pop) with direct access to countryside but 3 min from the Main Street

17 The Green is a charming studio cottage in the middle of the ancient village of Swinton in the Scottish Borders.
Swinton dates from the 11th century or earlier, and is associated with the Swinton family, who took their name from the settlement. In 1769, the village was re-designed around the village green (one of only two in the Scottish borders) where the property is located. A market was created, now marked by the market cross. The village's symbol is a boar, which can be found on the market cross, above the door of the kirk, and carved in to the pulpit.

Nós apreciamos completamente a nossa estadia e recomendaria a todos. Muito obrigado.

The rear of the property looks onto a log store and outbuildings which can be used for the storage of bikes and outdoor kit. A tumble dryer is provided in the outbuilding. The cottage sits at the end of a row of cottages but is not overlooked. Dogs Two well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept to the uncarpeted areas of the property and are not permitted on the soft furnishings.

For those with a sense of adventure and a passion for the great outdoors who love the idea of camping but when faced with the reality of a night under canvas crave their home comforts; a tweedy armchair in front of a roaring fire, lashings of hot water and a comfortable bed, The Bothy at Reedsford is the ideal compromise. A far cry from city life, the cottage lies in a sheltered, sunny spot in the remote and extremely picturesque Bowmont Valley, deep in the foothills of the Cheviot Hills. With stunning views from every aspect, The Bothy is an idyllic rural retreat offering unsophisticated elegance combined with the comfortable feel of a real home and although off the beaten track, visitors are in fact only a short drive from local shops, pubs and other amenities. The flexible accommodation at The Bothy makes it ideal for a couple or families. For couples, the larger second bedroom at the very end of the cottage can be shut off and a couple can be perfectly self-contained and cosy in the main part of the house. The large second bedroom is ideal as a ‘dorm' for children and during the summer months, two families holidaying together are welcome to set up camp for older children in the garden (see below for details). During the winter months, the large second bedroom at the far end of the cottage provides plenty of space for children to play without disturbing adult-time and a television and DVD player are provided. The garden is fenced so children can play safely and dogs can't wander off and the immediate area offers endless opportunities for families to explore whether on two legs, four legs or two wheels! A neighbouring barn provides a fabulous indoor games / picnic room for wet days complete with a wood burning stove, table football, pool and a full size table tennis table. The accommodation at The Bothy is all one level and sleeps a maximum of six guests in two bedrooms. Over the summer months two families can share the accommodation with children camping in the garden at additional cost. Please contact us for further details. Please note the central heating is via a log burner which is lit prior to arrival during the winter months. Please see below for full details. The system is surprisingly easy to use but please contact us if you have any concerns. Open plan kitchen, dining area and seating area Fabulous, handmade, fully-equipped kitchen with range oven with 5 ring gas hob, fridge and dishwasher. Large cupboard for food storage and plenty of additional storage. (Please note that a washing machine, tumble dryer and deep freeze are also provided elsewhere within the property). The convivial dining area has bench-style seating for many guests. Charming, cosy seating area with a log burner (logs are provided) sofa and two arm chairs. There is plenty of indoor entertainment provided including HD television with Freeview, DVD player, iDock and a selection of board games. Patio doors lead from the seating area to a decked patio with outstanding views across farmland to the hills beyond. Accessed directly from the main door is a hallway with ample space to hang coats and store boots beneath a bench seat. Bedroom one with 5' double bed and large, fitted wardrobe. Family bathroom with bath with handheld shower, whb and WC. Bedroom two with 6' double bed or two 3' twin beds. Television with Freeview and DVD player. Large cupboard for clothes and shoes, and chest of drawers. An additional 3' single bed with truckle bed (sleeping 2 children) are available for a charge of £50.00. Please ensure you state at time of booking if you require the additional beds or it will not be made up for your stay. En suite shower room with walk-in shower, whb and WC. Leading from bedroom two is a small entrance hall with additional storage space for outdoor clothing which is accessed directly from the outside thereby giving guests in this bedroom their own private access if required. Garden and grounds To the rear of the property is a decked patio area which leads to a gravelled seating area with a picnic table and children's swing. Beyond is a fenced lawned area with a paddock beyond with a rope swing. The patio area and garden are south facing and offer superb views over open fields to the hills. The rear garden is fully enclosed for the safety of dogs and children. A charcoal kettle barbecue is available for guest use. External storage Adjacent to the cottage is an outhouse with a sink, deep freeze and tumble dryer. It is lockable and ideal for storing bikes, tack and outdoor equipment. Paddock Beyond the garden is a paddock available to any guests wishing to bring horses with them. With sufficient notice, stabling can also be arranged in the barn adjacent to the paddock. Parking There is private parking for several cars to the side of the house. Games / picnic room A neighbouring barn provides an indoor games room / picnic area with picnic tables, wood burning stove, full size table tennis table, a pool table and table football. Facilities for babies A travel cot and high chair are available on request. Dogs Two dogs are welcome at The Bothy. We would ask that owners adhere to the guidelines in the pre-arrival information with regard to dogs. IMPORTANT - Heating and hot water Central heating at The Bothy is provided by a log burning stove. During the winter months the stove will be lit in advance so that the cottage is warm on arrival. The system is very efficient providing that logs are added a couple of times a day; each morning the fire needs to be flared up so that it is burning sufficiently for the pump to operate allowing hot water to circulate around the radiators. In the evening, the logs need replenishing before guests go to bed and with the vents closed there is sufficient residual heat to keep the fire alight through the night. If required, additional heating is provided by two oil-filled radiators. An immersion heater provides additional hot water if required. The system is surprisingly easy to use but it is important that guests contact prior to booking if they have any concerns. Wi-Fi and mobile telephone reception Wi-Fi is provided in the open plan kitchen, dining and seating area, however the signal can be intermittent and it is important to note that due to the thickness of the walls the signal may not reach other rooms of the property. Please note that there is no mobile telephone reception at The Bothy. There is however a landline at the property for guest use. Excess use will be charged back to guests. Catering Home-made ready meals can be prepared and delivered to your property during your stay. Prices and further details can be discussed and arranged in advance by contacting the owner - detailed on pre-arrival documentation when booking the property. Alternatively further details can be found in the cottage during your stay.
Superb walks from the doorstep range from leisurely rambles along the Bowmont Water and surrounding farmland to more challenging hill and moorland treks in the Cheviot Hills. With more than 600 miles of footpaths and bridleways to choose from in the National Park alone, walkers are spoilt for choice. Cyclists are equally well provided for with miles of marked routes and quiet country lanes to explore offering everything from meandering river valley saunters to wild open moorland blasts. Popular routes include the Pennine Cycleway and the Reivers Cycle Route, both of which run through the National Park. There can be no better way of enjoying Northumberland's beautiful scenery than from the back of a horse. The stables at Kimmerston just down the road offer riding in the Cheviot Hills as well as rides on the spectacular sandy beaches on nearby Holy Island. The paddock behind the cottage is available to guests wishing to bring their own horses and stabling can usually be arranged with sufficient notice. History enthusiasts of all ages will be enthralled by the area's rich and often bloody history that has left its imprint on the region, giving rise to a myriad of impressive castles to explore. Including imposing Bamburgh perched on its rocky outcrop above Bamburgh Beach, Alnwick, star of the Harry Potter films and Chillingham, said to be the most haunted castle in Britain and home to the only wild cattle in the world. Some of the cleanest and emptiest beaches in England can be found on Northumberland's spectacular Heritage Coastline; 25 miles of rocky coves and golden sands that remain almost deserted even during the summer months. The beach at nearby Bamburgh is well worth a visit at any time of the year whether for walking, kite-surfing, or sandcastle building. From nearby Seahouses, take a tour to the Farne Islands, to see the resident colonies of Grey Seals and an impressive array of birdlife including Puffins. One of our favourite attractions, popular with old and young alike, is the delightful miniature steam railway which runs from Heatherslaw to Etal. On arrival in Etal, the visitor is well advised to leave the train and spend an hour or two in the village, exploring the ruins of Etal Castle and its museum, visiting the Black Bull Pub, village shop, Tea Room, the Church, the pine furniture makers' showroom, or simply enjoying a walk or picnic beside the river, before catching a later train back to Heatherslaw. Here, on the other side of the bridge from the train station, the working water driven corn mill, café, and visitors centre are also all well worth a visit. Fishing is available on the Bowmont Water which runs within easy walking distance of The Bothy. The River Till is only a ten minute drive and is one of the area's best kept secrets with an impressive sea trout run each spring said to be the best in the country. Trout permits are available for as little as £5 per day and rods, reels and waders can be hired locally. For excellent local amenities, The Bothy is 9 miles from the charming ancient market town of Wooler which has a variety of local, independent shops including a butcher and grocer selling a good range of local produce, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The ancient towns of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Kelso and Duns are also nearby and Edinburgh is an easy day trip either approximately 1.5 hours by car or 45 minutes on the train from Berwick.

The annual Common Riding attracts many riders across the Borders and provides a good spectator attraction. There are a number of good pubs and restaurants within easy reach.
As camas eram extremamente confortáveis. No geral, nós amamos a nossa estadia e recomendo.

This comfortable and peaceful one-bedroom annexe is the perfect retreat for a couple. Situated in the pretty conservation village of Gavinton, a few miles outside Duns, the property sits on a 50-acre organic farm. Our annexe is spacious and relaxing, the ideal romantic rural escape. Edinburgh is just 50 mins away and there much to see in the Borders.
With the rapidly developing Coronavirus crisis and an increasing number of people self-isolating, our property could be the perfect escape for those wishing to avoid contact with others potentially infected or self-isolating. Our normal daily life here on the farm is virtually one of self-isolation and days go by when we do not come into contact with anyone, yet still being on the edge of and part of a small village of 300 inhabitants. We have 50 acres of farmland that you can walk around and look at the animals and hear the wildlife, without seeing another soul. Isolated beauty spots, hill walking, quiet beaches and river walks and lots of cycling can also be found around and about our property, again without having to come into close contact with another human. The annexe cottage is self-contained with private parking and its own separate entrance and therefore is ideal for escaping social contact without feeling too isolated from life and human habitation. The annexe cottage is deep cleaned thoroughly after every visit using alcohol and hydrogen peroxide products. This includes cleaning of all door handles and hard surfaces in addition to all kitchen equipment being re-washed after every guest visit. In nearby Duns (less than five minutes by car) there is a superb fresh fish and delicatessen shop, award winning butcher, small Co-op supermarket, pharmacy, newsagents and wine store/ice cream parlour. All of which have continued to be well stocked in spite of the reported panic buying elsewhere. We would also be more than happy to assist with any shopping you may require during your stay if you require it. Our farmhouse annexe has been newly renovated to a high standard. With underfloor heating throughout, Egyptian Cotton bedding and Hungarian goose down pillows, in a tranquil rural environment, we are sure you will sleep well and enjoy your retreat here. We provide guests with complimentary organic free-range eggs, cake, tea/coffee, and milk on arrival. We have bookshelves filled with a selection of books and a number of board games to play. Our living room has an Aromatherapy Humidifier with lavender oil that guests can use throughout their stay. The farmhouse annexe offers a new kitchen with combi oven/grill/microwave, dishwasher, super speed Wifi, and outdoor seating area. Guests can enjoy the beautiful sunrises from the kitchen window (as shown in the photos). The living area has a Smart TV and a cosy wood burning stove with unlimited supply of wood. The bathroom has a powerful shower and bath and we provide soft, white, fluffy towels and lavender and geranium 'Faith in Nature' Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash. We provide maps, local tourist information and a walking route map of our farm. Guests have private off road parking right outside the annexe.
Alexa runs yoga classes at the yoga studio beside the annexe cottage on Mondays 9.45-11am, 6-7pm and Thursdays 6-7pm (£8 per class) which you are welcome to attend if there is space available. Private yoga lessons also available upon request. Gavinton has a number of beautiful walks and cycle routes nearby and is within walking distance (30 mins) of Duns, which is a lovely walk through the hills. The nearby River Tweed has excellent fishing and there are many horse riding stables nearby. In Duns there are a number of boutique coffee shops, pubs, takeaways, community cinema and restaurants. There is a lovely swimming pool with a sauna and fitness classes. In Duns there is plenty to do including a walk around and visit to the 14th Century Duns Castle, the Jim Clark Museum and the nearby Manderston and Paxton House. You can also visit the seaside town of Berwick-upon-Tweed which is a 25 min drive and has a train line to Edinburgh, Dunbar and Newcastle. Or simply relax and enjoy the slower pace of life.

A large, cosy, west facing room in the basement of a Georgian villa with private wet room. The house is situated in a convenient yet secluded location close to the centre of the small town of Duns. Ideally situated for outdoor pursuits, local wedding venues or exploring the Scottish Borders towns, abbeys and beaches. Please read the description below before booking.
Our guest room has underfloor heating, the private wet room is nearby, across the corridor (we supply bath robes). The large 1930s continental-style bed is made out of two bed frames and has two single duvets, usually arranged together (with a 2 inch gap between the mattrasses) but can be set up apart on request. The mattrasses measure 1mx2m each. We can also supply a cot (please advise at time of booking). A continental breakfast is served upstairs in our large kitchen/diner. Please note we are a busy household with 4 (well- behaved) children aged 9-18, we enjoy meeting new people though and staying with us is an informal affair where guests are treated as part of the family. Our home is close to the wedding venues of Wedderburn Castle (1.8 miles), Duns Castle (0.8 mile) and Manderston House (1.5 miles). Please note that we have been renovating the house for about six years now, doing most of the work ourselves, and some areas may still look a little faded! We are also a TV free zone.
Previous guests have commented that Duns reminds them of small French towns. It has an attractive Market Square with a good variety of shops and cafes. Duns has a vibrant community with events throughout the year. We are involved with a number of local organisations and will be able to advise you on local events if you wish.
