The Arches is an attractive stone barn conversion providing excellent self-catering holiday cottage accommodation, perfect for cosy country evenings in front of a roaring log burning stove.
The Arches is an attractive stone barn conversion providing excellent self-catering holiday cottage accommodation. The Arches lies within the heart of the picturesque village of Otterburn. Otterburn is situated on the edge of the Northumberland National Park on the A696, being a perfect overnight stop for those en-route to and from Scotland and for guests attending the various wedding venues at Woodhill Hall ( approximately 1 mile), Le Petit Chateau ( approximately 250 metres) and Otterburn Castle Hotel (approximately 300 metres). This charming two-storey cottage, comprises a one master bedroom with a king size bedroom and feature beams to the ceiling with an ensuite shower room to the first floor. To the ground floor living area there is a fully equipped solid oak kitchen with a spacious dining area, perfect for entertaining. Leading of the open plan kitchen there is a wood burner within the living area which is perfect for cosy country evenings in front of a roaring fire. The Arches forms part of the owners larger property ‘Sunnybrae’ but is completely self-contained providing an ideal base for those wishing to explore the unspoiled and historic landscapes of Northumbria. Although the Arches is a one bedroom cottage, it does however have the facilities to sleep more upon request. Well behaved pets are welcome! Please advise on booking. Accommodation Details Ground floor: Kitchen/dining room with oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. Living room with wood burner, freeview TV with built in DVD player. Toilet. First floor: Bedroom Double bed, hairdryer, iron and ironing board Bathroom Outside: Courtyard with table and chairs. Fuel, Oil CH and gas hob. Parking for The Arches is to the side of the property, on the stoned drive/courtyard with table and chairs any issues please contact us. The house can be accessed directly by guests, who are given a code to a key box on the outside of the house. Check in from 2pm and check out by 11am. We are always available to guests by phone, text or email. If you would like to meet up for a chat about what's available locally I would be happy to call in, but generally I would leave you to enjoy the house without interruption. The neighbourhood is peaceful, the silence only broken by the sound of birds both wild and domesticated and the odd vocal sheep. The domesticated variety of bird are actually very well behaved. Ideally your own car is the best way to get around. There are buses that run to Jedburgh and Newcastle but are fairly infrequent. Otterburn does however provide a good base point for walkers and cyclists looking to explore the Northumberland countryside. Otterburn Castle and the Border Reiver village shop (which stocks virtually anything and everything) are easily accessed on foot from the property. We will provide one basket full of logs for the wood burner. We will also provide some essentials, such as tea, coffee and sugar. Please just ask us for further information prior to your stay as we will try to accommodate for all guests as best that we can.

    Amanda2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Casa incrível - ficamos aqui antes do meu casamento com meus arrumadores. Ótimo lugar para relaxar antes do grande dia! Obrigado Elizabeth!

    James2019-09-15T00:00:00Z

Just 45 minutes from Newcastle and the A1, Otterburn is a lovely little spot in Northumberland National Park. Otterburn village itself is a mile down the road with a gastro pub, castle (with restaurant) and general store, and there's also a great restaurant and takeway on the site itself. Woodland walks abound (from your doorstep) with local attractions such as Kielder Water and Hadrian's Wall just a short drive away. Welcome to The Lonnen! I live in an idyllic and secluded cottage in rural Northumberland. I have two stylish and comfortable private rooms, each with their own en-suite shower room. The rooms are accessed via a separate entrance to my home - and your room has it’s own lock on the door, meaning you can come and go as you wish. There is plenty of parking and a beautiful outdoor seating area with views across the National Park. Breakfast is freshly made and delivered to your room each morning
The Lonnen is a traditional old stone-built Northumbrian cottage. It's located down a private track so offers peace and tranquility, beautiful views and plenty of luxurious features to ensure you enjoy your stay. There is a separate entrance, which you will have a key for - allowing you to come and go as you please. I'm always around and happy to help - but you can be as independent as you like once you arrive! The room is light and airy, with a modern shower room (with a toilet, sink, large shower and fluffy towels). It's stylishly decorated and should include everything you need for a relaxing break. There is a pantry area in the corner of the room - there's a Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster, small fridge (with fresh milk), a selection of hot drinks, bread and cereal. I also try to leave a freshly baked cake for when you arrive - so make sure you check the 'Treats' tin! There is a fold-out table where you can enjoy breakfast. It could also be used for work if needed. Please note that there isn't a separate dining room or living room for guests. I also have a kingsize room at The Lonnen, which is available on Airbnb. Follow me on Instagram for lots of photos and updates - @thelonnen or search using the hashtag #thelonnennorthumberland
The cottage is situated on my family's farm, which is part of the Northumberland National Park. The Simonside Hills are just five minutes drive away, as is the local town of Rothbury. You can find banks, the Post Office and lots of shops and pubs there. We are also just 15-20 minutes away from two beautiful National Trust properties - Wallington and Cragside. It's about 20 minutes to the market towns of Alnwick and Morpeth, and 45 minutes to Hadrians Wall. You can also get to the beautiful Northumberland coastline in about 30 minutes, so we really are perfectly placed for exploring Northumberland. There are plenty of good restaurants, pubs and coffee shops near by - and you can walk to the local pub, The Gate, in about 15-20 minutes. There are loads of public footpaths in the area if you like to walk - I'm happy to provide a packed lunch if you need it!

Local amenities in the village include butchers, bakers, chemist, co-op, pubs, cafe’s, a Chinese Take Away & various shops.

The only guests will be you as I only rent 1 room & we are very used to guests coming & going, doing their own thing etc. There is a secure lock up for bikes.

At night with a clear sky, the stars are amazing, you will be able to observe the milky way and we have been fortunate to see the Northern Lights twice from our hilltop position since living here. There is a Dark Skies Park at Kielder Forest, allowing people to observe the stars at the observatory unobstructed by light pollution(1 hour 15 minutes away) Booking is essential. We are very central for exploring the county. Enjoy a boat trip from Seahouses to see the Puffins in April/May and June, you may see seals and porpoises too. There are a variety of very good restaurants within an easy drive, including Lollo Rosso in Morpeth, an Italian which is our favourite (booking essential). The area is fantastic for keen cyclists, as it is challenging and very varied. There are routes from our doorstep. Bikes are available to hire locally. We also have secure storage for your own bikes. The nearest beach - Druridge Bay is 30 minutes by car. If you enjoy walking, there are many routes from your door including a lovely walk along the railway to Rothbury where you can stop for coffee and home made cakes before walking home again. The traditional music scene is very strong locally. Rothbury Roots at The Queens Head Pub in Rothbury host live music as do the other pubs in the village. We are 45 minutes from Newcastle with it's famous bars, pubs, clubs and entertainment venues. Parking is private and secure. Please be aware that you will need to drive to our local shops and pub as they are not within walking distance. Why not get a Tesco delivery when you arrive.
The Lee is a hamlet with around 30 houses. We are in a very rural position but only 10 minutes from both Rothbury and longframlington. Traffic is light on our minor road so you can walk or cycle safely. There are plenty of routes to test you as it’s quite hilly!

Come and stay in our beautiful spare room with breathtaking views across the Rede Valley. We're Nikki and Nick, we live in West Woodburn, a village in Northumberland. We moved here a couple of years ago and we love its unspoilt, remote location. Our home is well placed as a stop en route to Scotland, or as a base to enjoy the sights of Kielder, Hadrian's Wall and West Northumberland. We are 4 miles from these wedding venues: Le Petit Chateau, Woodhill Hall and Otterburn Castle.
Our house is built on the ancient Roman route from York to Scotland, as well as being the birthplace of the first Border Collie, Old Hemp. We're just on the edge of Northumberland National Park and well situated to enjoy the local area, including UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrian's Wall, the Cheviot hills, and to star-gaze in Kielder's Protected Dark Skies. We are on the Sandstone Way cycle route. Continental breakfast will be provided on a help yourself basis and there will also be tea & coffee facilities in the room. Just to make you aware we have 4 cats, so if you don't like cats or are allergic our home may not be right for you. We will of course keep them out of your room! There's a village shop and country pub (which does great food) about 7 minutes walk away. We are about 4 miles from Bellingham which is on The Pennine Way and is home to the beautiful Hareshaw Linn waterfall. Otterburn is also 4 miles away. We are about 15 miles from the Scottish border.

The cottage is set up for quiet retreats by the host and his students. There is no TV or radio, but there is Wi Fi with fast broadband. One of the bedrooms has a futon on a low base to make space for yoga, meditation, etc. There is a high quality sofa bed in the living room. Bathroom with bath and electric shower. The cottage is beautiful inside but also rustic and lived in. It is not done up as a holiday home.
The room is light and airy and furnished with antique furniture and fabrics from a local designers. There's a private modern shower room with a toilet, sink, large shower and fluffy towels. It should include everything you need for a relaxing break. There is a door in the corner of this room that used to connect to my home - however it is locked and your room is totally secure and private.
