Enjoy privacy and comfort in your own handmade stone cottage, built 1830s, attached to our family home. 25mins drive from Kenmare town, on a farm with sheep and loads of wildlife. Private, self-contained, spacious and relaxed. Free wifi. Real wood fire, with fuel provided. Comfy couch, satellite TV. Cook your meals at home or visit great local restaurants. Enjoy the beautiful Beara peninsula away from the crowds, with lots to see nearby, enjoy a walk or a bike ride. Breakfast provided.
Our cottage was built in the mid 1800s by the McCarthy family. It has a handmade feel, with exposed stone walls and a wood burning stove. We are 15 miles from Kenmare, our nearest town, in a beautiful valley, only a mile from the sea. Guests have a large bedroom upstairs, with one double bed and a sofa bed. A cot is also available on request. Please note that while babies and older children are welcome, our home is not suitable for toddlers due to the open staircase and the stove. Guests have their own private dining/sitting room, and a sunroom that is a lovely place to sit and read. A small utility room is shared with our house. The newly renovated guest bathroom has an electric shower. Cooking Facilities: the cottage has a kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave and a gas cooker. (Recently installed) As detailed below, we provide breakfast. We accept PETS BY PRIOR ARRANGEMENT ONLY. You must contact us before booking with a pet. Please note, the second bed in the cottage is a sofa bed. If you want to use it, please tell us when you book, so we can prepare it for you. Otherwise we will assume that the double bed is all you need. We really need to know your expected time of arrival beforehand as we both work quite far from home. If you want to check in before 5pm, please ask, as that is possible certain days of the week when we get home a little earlier. For the ultimate chill out, why not book dinner - we will serve you a delicious three course meal, using home grown and local produce, in your cottage. Total privacy, total comfort, and no driving after a few glasses of wine! On lazy days you could get lucky and see some amazing local wildlife from the window without even going outside - including hares, white tailed eagles and the wild Sika deer who roam freely around here. For less lazy days, our peninsula boasts dozens of stone circles, ogham stones, wedge tombs and other sites of archeological interest. There is a bike rental about one mile away, with lovely scenic routes mapped out. We are located on the Beara Way signposted walking route.
Lauragh offers breathtaking scenery in any weather. Mountains that change from green to grey to purple as the day progresses, lakes and rivers flowing to Kenmare Bay in fat torrents, and numerous woodlands. Within a couple of miles there is a lovely coffee shop with bike rental, and a restaurant that is open all year round. Three miles away is Helen's Bar, a famous seaside pub where you can enjoy a pint and some food sitting on the pier. Go a little further afield and you have our nearest towns: Kenmare, to the east and Castletownbere to the west. Both have their own charms. If you want to chill out on your holiday, we are in easy reach of the world famous Dzogchen Beara retreat centre. They offer free guided meditations twice a day, with the most amazing 180 degree view of the ocean. If that's not your thing, you can just have tea and cake in their lovely coffee shop and soak up the atmosphere. There are loads of lovely drives from here - the Ring of Kerry is the famous one, but the Ring of Beara shares its jaw dropping sea views, pretty villages and delicious local foods. We are situated on the Wild Atlantic Way, the longest coastal driving route in the world, famous for unrivalled ocean views.

Passei duas semanas lá e tive que literalmente forçar-me a deixar o fim.

Character-filled tranquil Irish cottage featuring the cascades and waterfalls of Coolcreen river running alongside the house, perched on a hill over Glanmore Lake. Contemporary and spacious open plan living areas with two cosy and comfy double en suite bedrooms. Coolcreen Cottage is the perfect nature-fuelled getaway with its garden filled with rhododendrons and ferns supported by the unique gulf stream mild climate synonymous across the Beara Peninsula. Kenmare, a must-see town nearby.
Coolcreen Cottage offers a tranquil retreat where the overriding sound is the calming flow of the waterfalls and cascades of the river which runs alongside the property. Visitors also have access to Glanmore Lake through a private right of way and there are numerous places to relax, recharge, reflect, work quietly, meditate and zone out from the world. The home combines just about every mod con, a contemporary design in a unique setting of mountainside, valley, river and lake. The house also nestles on the side of the Healy Pass, known for its breathtaking views, wandering sheep and geological marvels. Other nearby attractions are numerous neolithic stone circles, Derreen Gardens, Kilmakilloge, The Wild Atlantic Way coast road, many quaint fishing villages and the scenic town of Kenmare which is about 20 minutes drive away, featuring world class eateries (Packies, The Mews, Mulcahys are our favourites). Delicious fresh baked herb bread available from our neighbour during weekend mornings. Please enquire at time of booking for options. The fire will be set for your arrival and an initial supply of turf briquettes will be provided: additional supplies can be obtained in any of the local supermarkets and garages, and also in the nearest shop at Ardgroom. Part of the appeal of Coolcreen Cottage is that it is located halfway between Kenmare and Castletownbere, both of which offer amazing opportunities for fine dining, more casual eating and great cafe/bar venues. Please note that Lauragh itself is a beautiful, unspoilt small Irish community and you will need to do your shopping before you arrive. Most people arrive from the Kenmare direction, where there are three Supermarkets (SuperValu, Aldi and Lidl) all next door to each other. If travelling from Bantry, there is a SuperValu and a Lidl in town . Lauragh has no shops although it does have three good cafes open during he holiday seasons (Pedals & Boots, Derreen Garden Cafe and The Smokey Pickle) and a restaurant which is open all year round - Josie's Lakeview Restaurant. Please note that the farm near the cottage has a very friendly sheepdog who sometimes visits to cadge treats from holidaymakers. Ruthe and Tony who live next door and look after the cottage also have two small friendly young dogs who will be wandering free in their garden, should you choose to explore their garden and the waterfalls. It is therefore quite likely that you will meet a friendly Irish dog on your stay!

  • Boa vinda da Maureen. Linda casa em uma área encantadora. Espero voltar em breve

    Val2017-11-02T00:00:00Z

    Joseph2018-08-31T00:00:00Z

Gortavallig is a 200-year-old traditional stone whitewashed cottage, sympathetically restored to retain its original character and charm. It is set in over 100 acres of private land and accessed by a quarter-mile-long private road. It is a few minutes on foot from Glanmore Lake and has fine views of the surrounding countryside and mountains.
The house is actually two cottages joined together. There is a small barn next to it which houses a utility and storage room. There are a few small stone out buildings. The cottage has been featured in various publications including the Guardian, Irish Homes and Interiors, 25 Beautiful Homes and has been used as a location for a photographic catalogue shoot for UK clothing company Toast. Having been restored to retain as many as possible of its original features while adding modern comforts, it does not have a shiny new finish and is more suitable for those seeking a genuinely rustic experience. There is a wood burning stove in the kitchen and another in the living room.
The Beara peninsula is one of the most beautiful scenic places in Ireland. it is great for hiking, swimming, fishing but there are also great restaurants and bars in the local towns and villages. Sub-tropical Dereen gardens are nearby with a lovely tea room. Pedals and Boots cafe in Lauragh also rents bikes. Harringtons shop in Ardgroom has a great selection of food items and a good stock of organic wine. It is 16 miles to Kenmare and about the same to Castletownbere, the second largest fishing port in Ireland. There is a local shop about 2 miles away and Josies Lakeview restaurant is within walking distance. Glanmore lake is a great place for a swim
Recomendaria altamente.

I can't recommend a bike hire company because it's some years since I did it... but if you go to Killarney over the Molls Gap route , there are bicycles for hire as you approach Killarney town. Here, you are beside the cycle lane to Muckross House, it's very convenient. Contact me if your having any trouble finding it. If your travelling with children & like mine they are animal lovers then The Kennedy’s Pet Farm in Killarney is a must. It's on the Kenmare to Killarney route via Kilgarvan. Kenmare town is a haven of tranquility, gourmet food, superb accommodation and breathtaking scenery in one of the most natural, unspoilt environments in Europe. Cradled in the heart of The Kenmare Bay, this picturesque town of Kenmare is the perfect location from which to discover the South West of Ireland, linking the internationally famous Ring of Kerry with the rugged Ring of Beara. The Irish name for Kenmare is Neidin, it means little nest. Founded in 1670, Kerry’s first Heritage Town. The Ring of Kerry, known all over the world, follows the coastline of the Iveragh peninsula. It is one of the most dramatic scenic drives in the country and makes a most exciting day tour. Along the 175km route are picturesque villages, an abundance of historical landmarks, sandy coves and beaches. To the north of Kenmare is the Killarney National Park, 10,000 hectares of woodland and magical mountains, with spectacular views of the lakes of Killarney. The unspoiled Ring of Beara lies to the South of Kenmare. Its rugged beauty is beyond compare, with an abundance of archeological sites and spectacular views with white sandy beaches in Allihies. The Ring of Beara is not as well known as the Ring of Kerry and therefore not so crowded. Whether it is walking on the mountains, cruising on the bay, horse riding, golfing, fishing, an author writing a book, touring or soaking up the best of music you will not be disappointed in our Beautiful Kenmare. Bantry is worth a trip it’s about an hours drive, it’s close to Glengarriff and has many festivals running during the summer months, the music festival in July is wonderful, some classical music events are held in the gardens of The Beautiful Bantry House. (We recommend you visit Bantry on a Friday and have the Asian Street Dish from ‘Wok About’, it’s based outside Quills Fashion Shop on Friday’s, the rice or noodle dishes are truly wonderful). The boat trip to whiddy Island is very exciting. Approx 20 Luxury Liners are due to dock in Bantry this summer, they look just amazing and there is always a great buzz to have all the cruise visitors in Bantry Town. I hope you enjoy your holiday. Thank you for visiting our page.

This glamping site offers accommodation in a vintage caravan and gypsy wagon ( see Chez Shea Gypsy Wagon- also listed with Airbnb) Both have been carefully restored, featuring very different vintage interiors. Come and check us out!
Spend some relaxing time in our restored 1979 caravan-very retro, very sweet, cosy and compact- so don't over pack!! It has a comfortable double bed, a small hob, fridge and a gas heater. The caravan has a toilet and shower block nearby- with one shower and two toilets-sink, heater. On this glamping site, the bathroom is shared by a maximum of four people at any one time. If the dates you want are not available - please check out our other airbnb listing 'Chez Shea Gypsy Wagon' The price quoted is for accommodation only. A simple vegetarian breakfast can be purchased for an additional charge. We offer a clothes washing service for a small fee. There are limited cooking facilities in the caravan so its possible to prepare simple meals. We have a 'things to do' drawer which has a selection of games and puzzles for your enjoyment. Or- why not bring your knitting and a book and enjoy some time out! This location provides a good base for people who enjoy hiking, hill walking, and peace and tranquility. There is a pub and a restaurant about 5 kilometres from the house. It is also within driving distance of the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara- both of which are very scenic. Another idea for a day trip would be to take the tunnel road from Kenmare to Glengarrif - possible stopping off at Lorges Choclatiers, Molly Galvins traditional Irish farm and Ewe Sculpture Garden- drive back to Adrigole, over the Healy Pass which has a great view of Glenmore Lake and back home! Guests may also enjoy interacting with our dogs, cats, ponies, donkeys- all of whom are very happy to meet new admirers and possibly be taken for a walk! We supply all bed linen and towels.
