Pretty Cottage, built in c.1880, lies in the historic gold fields town of Talbot. Lovingly restored with period features, the cottage sits just a short distance from the centre of the town. The town boasts a monthly Craft and Farmers' Market, an award winning Provedore and Eatery, an observatory, pub, book store, vintage shops, post office/general store and is close to the Pyrennees and other beautiful wine producing areas. Your stay includes a full breakfast to cook and eat at your leisure.
Pretty Cottage is approximately 140 years old. It is a small and cosy cottage that has two bedrooms, a laundry facility, a full kitchen, a bathroom with a step-in shower, bath and spa, a lovely generously sized garden and spacious outdoor entertaining areas. The main bedroom boasts a large open fireplace, ideal for brisk winters and romantic nights. The second bedroom has French doors that lead out onto its own private deck and garden, with two chairs and a table. The laundry features a sink, washing machine and vented clothes dryer together with washing detergents, complimentary for your stay together with a large fold-down washing line located outside. The kitchen is fully self-contained with quality pots and pans, utensils, a large pantry cupboard and cleaning products under the sink. Quality Sheridan linen and towels, cutlery, crockery and glassware is also available for guests to use. A full English breakfast is provided for self catering together with a Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary coffee pods and a selection of Twinings tea sachets and loose leaf tea. Cooking essentials such as olive oil, salt, pepper, tomato sauce, soy sauce and some spices/herbs are also available for your use. One of the spacious outdoor entertainment areas features a market umbrella, table and chairs, the other is a roofed and decked area just outside the kitchen door, overlooking the cottage's beautiful English garden, and is a great space to relax with a wine or two. 🔑🔑🔑 SELF CHECK-IN/OUT 🗝🗝🗝 The cottage operates on a self-check-in/check-out basis (secure lockbox). The code and location for the lockbox will be sent via Airbnb at least one day prior to arriving. Check-in time is 3.00pm and check-out is 1.00. I am flexible with the check-in/out times, providing there are no back-to-back bookings. 📡📡📡 WIFI 📡📡 PLEASE NOTE : TELSTRA is the ONLY carrier that works, albeit sporadically, in Talbot. As of 13 December 2019, Telstra Wifi is included. A smart TV, G00gle Chromecast, DVD player, HDMI cable, Sony bluetooth music system together with a selection of DVDs and books are also provided for your use and leisure. As of 25 February Netflix is also included. 🚘🚗🚙 PARKING 🏍🚎🛵 There is no parking on the property, but off street parking is plentiful EXCEPT on market days (third Sunday of every month), so please park in Chapman Lane, located behind Pretty Cottage, where a gate leads into the back garden from the lane. The gate requires a very hard push/pull (depending on the weather) to open and close. There are also two umbrellas provided for guests' use, on rainy days, and these are located at the entrance of the cottage.
Talbot is now a quiet old gold mining town of approximately 400 people. During the Gold Rush, it is estimated that Talbot's population was upward of 30,000 people, and 100 hotels! According to local historians, Pretty Cottage's site was once a 'tent pub' and a few artefacts were discovered when digging garden beds within the back garden. These items of interest are housed in the drop-down-desk inside the cottage for your perusal. 🏨⛪️🌅 THE TOWN 🏡🏘🏦 Talbot now boasts a multiple award-winning 🥇 Provedore and Eatery that is open from Thursday through to Sunday for breakfasts, morning/afternoon teas and lunches, and dinner every Saturday night. We advise pre-booking a meal. Talbot’s Court House Hotel/pub run by Reiny and Barry, also serve delicious dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and is a vibrant place to be when busy, so a visit is highly recommended and pre-booking is also advised. Pretty Cottage is also mentioned in Narenna Bloomfield’s article in the ‘Daylesford Life Macedon, Autumn 2020, Volume 3, Issue 1, supplement located in The Age newspaper on Saturday 15 February 2020. https://daylesfordmacedonlife.com.au/stories/food-wine/taste-of-talbot#.XkTPtgb7Owg.facebook The town also prides itself in the following:- 1 - the oldest running post office/milk bar in Victoria run be Denise & Ross; 2 - an observatory for space enthusiasts (weather permitting) run by Robert; 3 - a stunning book shop, ‘Slightly Bent Books’, run by Helen; 4 - a couple of vintage shops - one in Chesterfield House and the other next door to Slightly Bent Books shop; 5 - a museum (open on certain days); 6 - a clean outdoor swimming pool (open only in summer when the weather forecast is above 25 degrees); 7 - the original railway station - now a plant nursery/bric-a-brac space - opened to the public and run by Ralph; 8 - the Amherst Vineyard, famous for its beautiful local wines, run by Luke Jones; 9 - the Possum Gully Art Gallery, run by Trish - about a 20 min drive from Talbot; 10 - Felix Ceramics (within the township), run by Belinda; 11 - Stuff ‘n Nonsense (behind the Provedore); 12 - Rosy’s Red Corridor Gallery (famous for her hand knitted quirky teapots and covers); 13 - ‘Barefoot Annie’ (vintage clothing) run by Annie; and 14 - the Aboriginal Maternity tree (allegedly 700 years old) is also nearby. 15. The Chinese baths, off Possum Gully Road, Amherst. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.goldfieldsguide.com.au/explore-location/264/19th-century-chinese-baths/&ved=2ahUKEwi66_ff_PPnAhXilEsFHeXAAe4QFjABegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw0nFo4AcW5dtKICg1XxoT9n&cshid=1582883581011 Talbot is also located within an hour’s drive to Victoria’s famous Pyrenees wine region. Vineyards such as DogRock, Redbank, Summerhill, Taltarnie and Dalwhinnie are a few that come to mind. 🚌🚌🚌 PUBLIC TRANSPORT 🚈🚈🚈 The new Talbot railway station is fully operable and usually runs twice a day (week days) from Maryborough to Ballarat and back. There is also a bus service with two bus stops - one near Chesterfield House and the other outside the old railway station. However, both train and bus services need daily checking on V/Line due to regular maintenance. 🥤☕️🍽 MARKETS 🌽🥕🥒 The Craft and Farmers' market is held on the third Sunday of every month and draws approximately 3000 people. Here you will find anything from fresh farm produce to handmade goods such as hand bags (made by Ingrid), hand made soaps, live entertainment, bric-a-brac, craft items, quality nursery plants and plenty of food and coffee. ⛏💰 GOLD FOSSICKING 💰⛏ Fossicking for gold is also a popular recreation and enjoyed by many gold-detecting enthusiasts. The world's largest gold nugget, the 'Welcome Stranger' was found 150 years ago in Moliagul (approximately a 45 minute drive away from Talbot)! So bring a metal detector down - you never know what you may find! Two gold-fossicking booklets are also provided for use, but remain the property of the cottage. 🧖‍♀️ SPA/Masseurs 🧖‍♂️ Maryborough (a 10 min drive from Talbot) has a masseur, but does not offer a mobile facility. However should you require a mobile masseur, I can organise this should the masseur be available. Daylesford (a 40-45 min drive from Talbot) offers both, spas and masseurs.
Definitivamente vou recomendar a amigos e familiares :)

Welcome to Grayling’s Gift, your relaxation journey starts here. A humble red brick church built in 1875 on land generously donated to the community by William Grayling, a descendant of one of the first pioneering families of the Shire, continues to offer all those that enter her doors a haven of rest and peace.
As the current custodians, we continue Grayling’s spirit of generosity by sharing this charming place. We have carefully transformed this historic building with our own hands using salvaged materials. Careful not to remove the rich history and integrity we have consciously retained many of the imperfections gathered from her 145 years. For us, these are the lines in her story, beautiful reminders of the memories created within these walls. With the city at your back and the stunning granite hills of the Pyrenees Wine region ahead of you, leave the stresses of life behind you as you gently close the doors of Grayling’s and like many guests before you, don’t open them again until you depart. Grayling’s Gift has been carefully curated to enable you to retreat and unwind in luxury and comfort, consciously designed as a sanctuary for rest, immersion and reflection. Every care has been taken to provide the elements necessary for you to enjoy a restful stay. Allow the mesmerising flicker of flames from wood heater to ease you into a state of relaxation. A selection of gorgeous interior books, thought-provoking reading, yoga mats and a selection of cards and games are provided to enhance your relaxation experience from the comfort of the chesterfield lounge and vintage armchairs. We invite you to luxuriate in the vintage galvanized bathtub perfectly scented with our custom designed bath salts while you enjoy the additional warmth from the original bathroom fireplace. The king size bed take centre stage at Grayling’s, as we all know the restorative benefits of sleep are paramount to our wellbeing. The bed is fitted with premium quality linen bed coverings to provide a luxurious and restful night’s sleep under the magnificent original stained glass windows. Our compact kitchen has all you need to prepare simple, nourishing meals. We provide complimentary ingredients for you to prepare a hearty breakfast and our pantry is stocked with a small selection of quality ingredients to enable you to prepare a simple pasta meal if you arrive unprepared. For later in the evening when the munchies strike the Honour bar is stocked with a small selection of alcohol and some lovely snacks. Ballarat is an easy detour coming from Melbourne to stock up on provisions for your stay as there is not a grocery store in Lexton. We encourage our guests to disconnect during their stay and enjoy the benefits of a taking a break from in order to reconnect with themselves, their loved one and the unique environment of Grayling’s Gift. Lexton does not have a reliable mobile signal and although we offer internet it is often slow unreliable. Grayling's Gift is not suitable for children or pets due to the delicate nature of its furnishings. Our bathroom features a bathtub with an overhead shower which unfortunately may not suit guests with mobility issues.
There are many wonderful towns and experiences all within easy reach of the Lexton, the aptly named “crossroads” town. Ballarat with all its history and charm, The Pyrenees Wine region, the Grampians, Macedon Ranges & Daylesford shire are all a comfortable drive from your base in Lexton. Upon booking, you will be sent our curated Visitor Guide to assist you with planning your stay and we are available (and love) to assist with arranging a more personalised itinerary. Just ask!

A quaint cottage featuring authentic stonework, comfortable rooms and great views, built by the owner: a stone mason. Features a lovely dam to enjoy with a cuppa or glass of wine. Located on the outskirts of Avoca the popular Pyrenees township. Close proximity to town centre featuring the celebrated Avoca Hotel and forms the gateway to many local Pyrenees wineries. Hosts can provide local information. The kitchen is fully equipped to enable you to cook and breakfast ingredients are provided.
Guests are expected to use water wisely as this is a rural property which relies on water collected in tanks on the property. It is also expected that the house will be kept in a tidy manner and treated with respect. Shoes off inside would help with the carpets! We have found it takes a lot more time to prepare both rooms plus providing additional food for two more people. So we have chosen to add $10 per extra person rather than adding a cleaning fee to keep our cottage as affordable as possible.
There are many features of interest and good places to dine in the town.

Nestled between farm sheds is 'The Hut', situated on a working sheep farm in Ascot. A current work in progress for the owners, this house was the former home of farm employees for many decades. With just a 90 minute drive from Melbourne, 'The Hut' is the perfect place to enjoy a night or two away in the country.
The house has a functional kitchen, including a gas oven and stove top, microwave and fridge. Crockery, cutlery and saucepans/pots are all provided should you want to cook. A quirk of The Hut is the toilet - after all these years it is still standing outside of the house! Please note that because of this, the house may not be suitable for people with mobility issues.
Ascot is a farming community set North of Ballarat in Central Victoria. This makes for limited traffic and lots of uninterrupted space to enjoy! The small towns of Clunes and Creswick, full of gorgeous coffee shops and beautiful walks, are only a short 10 minute drive away.

Set among an abundant and lively garden, The Barn is our fully detached, unique guest house. The building was originally a fully functional blue stone farm barn but since owning the property we have converted the space into an open plan house, complete with kitchen, bathroom, large living area and two mezzanine bedrooms. The outside remains in its original state while the inside has been decorated with a collection of artwork and objects from our travels overseas.
The Barn faces east with beautiful morning light pouring through its floor to ceiling windows. The two private outdoor seating areas are designed so you can enjoy as much of the day as possible in the sweet calm Weatherboard countryside. We have a chook pen and pond on site, which houses a wonderful ecosystem of frogs. The living space is naturally cool during summer due to its thick bluestone walls and becomes a cosy nest in winter with the fire going. The open plan nature of the house makes it ideal for a couple or a few close friends (the only completely private room in the house is the bathroom). We have housed many dinner parties and weekend get-togethers and the barn allows for everyone to feel a part of the fun. The area is very well suited for cyclists. The Avenue of Honour we live on runs approximately 25 kilometres back towards Ballarat, partially serviced with bike tracks and is a great ride. All around are quiet country roads and it is possible to explore extensively on a bike. Weatherboard Hill is directly behind us and we have access for climbing to the top from where there is a magnificent view. ‘The Barn’ is a very special place, we look forward to hosting you!
Weatherboard is a small community on the Avenue of Honour 25 minutes from Ballarat. The barn is on this Avenue of Honour, set amongst paddocks with a view of shallow Lake Learmonth.

Persimmon is a late 1860s ironmongers shop residence converted into a warm and welcoming one-bedroom abode in the heart of historic Clunes.
In the early 1860's the shop on Fraser Street was erected and used by the owner/occupier as an Iron Merchant and general store for agriculture and leather goods. A rear residence was erected a little later in the late 1860's. The addition of the residence typifies the rebuilding and general upgrading of the area in the late 1860's and early 1870's. The restoration of this historic building has seen original period features kept that provide insight to and a reminder of a time long past. Small and elegant, a focus has been placed on beautiful fabrics and a contemporary period style that comes together to create a special and memorable space. Petite, but perfect, everything you need is here. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge, wood heater, king size bed, and even a claw foot bath, sit in stylish and sophisticated interiors. Views onto an enclosed courtyard give a feeling of being in another time and place. You can relax and really make the most of this charming and quiet getaway, or simply stroll to the main street 50 meters away and peruse the quaint shops, groovy cafes and restaurants, immersed in the history and ambience of this brilliant place. A mecca for movie makers and enthusiasts and home to the Booktown festival, Clunes is rapidly becoming the next little Victorian "hot spot", a must to discover. Stays of longer than 2 nights are available, please contact us to enquire.
The historic township of Clunes is just 90 minutes drive from Melbourne CBD, 40 minutes from Daylesford and Ballarat and 10 minutes to Creswick. This delightful village has some great offerings and attractions. Home to the internationally renowned Clunes Booktown event, it is also host to the monthly Clunes Farmers Market and Makers Market, held the second Sunday of every month. A must visit in town is Quigley & Clarke where you will find great coffee, tasty lunches and fabulous dinners open five days per week. Clunes has a proud gold mining history and today still boasts an original and charming streetscape. It was the first town to find gold back in 1851 and kick-started the gold rush attracting miners from all over the world. It also has been a star of the big screen with blockbusters including `Mad Max', `Ned Kelly' and `Tomorrow when the war began' all filmed here.

Brand new, purpose built accommodation at the foothills of Mount Cole in the heart of the Victorian Pyrenees. Set well away and private from the main house, with open living/kitchen, bedroom and large bathroom. Picturesque views of the valley with a mountain backdrop in the most idyllic and quiet location where you can relax and unwind before touring the Pyrenees or exploring the stunning mountain region. This light, bright, sunny modern home has all you need to hide away and enjoy the peaceful surrounds, fresh mountain air and stunning views. Expect to feel overawed with the sights that surround you and get carried away in a magical sense of freedom and peace. Enter in to the open plan kitchen/living, put your feet up and sit back in one of the comfortable recliners while you take in the view from all angles or watch your favourite program on the wall-mounted smart tv. Grab a book and catch up on some reading while you listen to the birds or watch the native animals and resident pet cows outside your yard. The kitchen has a built in electric oven, gas cook top, and sink, with glass splash-back providing another view of the birds and mountain backdrop. There is a fridge/freezer, kettle and toaster, coffee plunger and water purifier. All crockery and cutlery, pots, pans, cooking utensils and glassware are provided to cook for yourself. Local wine and chocolates on arrival. Breakfast ingredients provided for up to 3 day stays and there is tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Please tell us when booking if you have any food allergies. Relax outside with a glass of wine or hot drink and toast marshmallows around the fire-pit whilst being mesmerised by the stunning star filled sky which is simply breath taking on clear nights. (Fire restrictions apply in summer) Inside, the house is warmed by passive solar from the sunny windows, or by reverse cycle air-conditioning which also cools the house in summer, with remote ceiling fans to living and bedroom areas. Please help conserve energy by turning it off if you go out for extended periods. Whilst the accommodation itself is completely wheel-chair accessible, with wide doorways, ramp to entrance, and toilet and shower access, the terrain of the surrounding property may be more difficult to navigate on a mountainside, with our gravel roads and undulating tracks, but certainly come and stay if you just want to settle in and relax and rest and enjoy the views. Enjoy the birds that flock to Wendy's garden as well as fresh fruits and vegetables left behind by the resident blue tongue lizard. Eildon Springs is a small prime-lamb farm at the base of Mount Bolton, twenty minutes from Ballarat. The Victorian homestead has been fully renovated in recent times and is comfortable. There are pleasant, sometimes demanding, walks nearby and Ballarat offers a wide range of wonderful activities for the visitor. We are inclusive and welcoming and ask only of our guests that they understand they are staying in our home.
The views are pleasant and the house comfortable - a good place to relax but not, perhaps, for riotous living. Children are welcome but must be at all times under the management of parents: farms are dangerous places and we have a lake - suitable for swimming from a beach - about 150 metres from the house. Your friendly dog will also be welcome but please note the garden is fenced but not secure. Guests will understand that sheep may not be worried by dogs - or anyone else!
Waubra is about fifteen minutes along the Sunraysia Highway from the Western Highway at Ballarat. It is also near towns such as Creswick, Clunes and Avoca - all of which have interesting tourist features and a variety of places to eat.

Welcome to Clunes - The Diamond of the Gold Fields -located just 40 mins from Daylesford and about an hour and 20 mins drive from the Melbourne CBD. Literally bursting with secrets, history, and idyllic country vistas Clunes offers a host of truly unique experiences for a weekend escape.
The Lodge at Clunes is equally historic: originally built in 1900 as the station masters residence in Williamstown. The exuberance of the age is reflected in a host of ornate features of the house including intricate stained glass, graceful metal lacework, hand-carved fretwork and mantelpieces, cast iron fireplaces, polished floorboards and 14-foot ceilings. It now sits proudly on one of the highest hills in Clunes with panoramic 270-degree views over the original corrugated rooftops of town - only a few minutes stroll away. At the height of the Victorian Gold Rush that Clunes was instrumental in starting - it was here that gold was first discovered in 1851 - the main Street boasted 15 hotels. Today that history lives in a streetscape so photogenic it was featured in Mad Max and Ned Kelly. The property features a fully equipped farmhouse style kitchen. The main living area is evocative of a stately manor house complete with classic board games and a record collection from the 70s and 80s. Each of the bedrooms celebrates different eras from the grand Lincoln bedroom with its massive four-poster oak bed to the Romeo and Juliet Suite that pays homage to Shakespeare while the Music Room gives a nod those timeless tunes of yesteryear. The master bathroom lit by an original chandelier incorporates a contemporary wall fire and features an extra deep designer bath from where you can luxuriate with views of the town. Stays of longer than 2 nights are available, please contact us to enquire.
The historic township of Clunes is just 90 minutes¿ drive from Melbourne CBD, 40 minutes from Daylesford and Ballarat and 10 minutes to Creswick. Clunes has a proud gold mining history and still today boasts an original and charming streetscape. It was the first town to find gold back in 1851 and kick started the gold rush attracting miners from all over the world. It also has been a star of the big screen with blockbusters including `Mad Max¿, `Ned Kelly¿ and `Tomorrow when the war began¿ all filmed here.
