If you are looking for close by hiking, Bent Creek is a local go-to. It is only 10-15 minutes from our door. There are three trailheads that you can go to, Hard Times being the most popular. From here you can do a nice three mile loop around the lake, or connect endless trails for an adventure.

There are three trailheads that you can go to, Hard Times being the most popular. From here you can do a nice three mile loop around the lake, or connect endless trails for an adventure.
Note: Road may be closed during winter. Highest Mountain east of the Mississippi! You can drive to the top for free and hike as much as you would like with amazing views. If you want a more serious hike, consider starting from black mountain campground and hiking up. Very strenuous. I'm happy to provide more info if desired.

If you want a more serious hike, consider starting from black mountain campground and hiking up. Very strenuous. I'm happy to provide more info if desired.

Nice 2.5 mile hike near black balsam mountain. Less crowded and just as good views! Drive to the end of black balsam road and trail is near restrooms. A bit further of a drive (45-60 min) but well work it. Check road closures and weather as it is >6000 ft and weather can be much different than AVL.
