Eating places

A lovely little Mexican restaurant, we like to eat here when we can. It is only small so often requires booking in advance - sometimes 2 or 3 weeks ahead depending on the time of year.

This is a lovely treat place. It’s open as a cafe by day but on a Thursday to Saturday evening it turns into a taster restaurant. It’s a set menu that changes regularly so best to check the website & look at the menu for a particular date to see what suits you. They also have a wine pairing option too which we enjoyed

Walking

Challenging walk, worth starting earlier in the day & when the weather is good for visibility. There is a car park right at the top of the road before starting the walk which some people might prefer to do rather than walking from the village of Coniston. Depending on the route taken I would allow a good 4-5 hours to allow time time to stop & take in the scenery. Approx 35 mins drive from our cottage

A local walk to the summit of Hoad Hill where you will find the Sir John Barrow monument. The shortest route would be from Ford Park or easy to walk from our cottage. A relatively short walk up the hill but a good incline so can leave you out of breath depending on your fitness levels. Worth a walk up the hill for the sunning views from the monument

This is a lovely walk, not overly strenuous & not too long but lovely views. We park in Glen Mary car park, this is the best place to start as it takes you up past Tom Gill waterfall before arriving at Tarn Hows which is just a lovely scenic walk - altogether about 2.5 miles
