Wine scene

Le Chai au Quai serves as a workshop for tiny production 'specials'. Here Bordeaux-born, Haut-Brion-trained Jean-Marc Sauboua, his second in command Mark Hoddy and the talented team push forward the frontiers of winemaking and challenge age-old traditions. They are happy to break the sacred appellation rules, thereby sacrificing a fancy name on the label in favour of capturing outstanding 'Grand Cru' flavour in the bottle. What makes them different from any other chateau visit ? Every wine from here is a little masterpiece, handcrafted from tiny parcels of amazing grapes that the team searches out. There are no strict rules to follow – they are happy to give their winemakers the freedom to make the wines how they want in the pursuit of excellence and perfection

This chateau is close to our heart as they are our neighbours. The owners will do a tour of the property and invite you to a tasting of their lovely wines. Very reasonably priced wines. Our favourites ? la Bidotte made from a parcel nearby St Emilion, and the white !

Classy restaurant in a very nice small hotel. The attention to detail and the restaurant service is provincial France at its best ! Our wine (local Duras) and the food was faultlessly delicious. This is a hotel a cut above.

Fantastic sound and light show, running in the evenings during the summer months. It is an historical evocation of a deed of arms between the French and the English in 1453, thus ending the Hundred Years War. During 95 intense minutes, you will be amazed by the enhanced by waterfalls and pyrotechnic effects, equestrian scenes taking you back to the heart of the Middle Ages, between farms and inns, women at the well, harvest scenes, acrobats, tooth pullers and street vendors. The medieval village precedes the show and offers many activities: medieval dances, knight fights, artisan stands, children's area, historical conferences, Murder Party, backstage visit, shop, catering points, crossbow shooting, shows in the Fortin arena.
