A traditional fishing village, Marsaxlokk is most famous for fish restaurants and the Sunday market. However, there is a daily market which is far less busy than the one on Sundays. If you want to avoid the market altogether go after 1p.m.

The Mosta Church is famous for it's dome which is the 4th largest unsupported dome in the world. Bombed in WWII, it is very important to Malta and the Maltese. While in Mosta, the best thing to do is just walk around the old streets. A trip here can be combined with a trip to Mdina or Golden Bay.

The closest sandy beach, Golden Bay is picturesque and has a great cafe. There is horse-riding nearby which is a delight at sunset. From here you can take a power boat to Comino or go parasailing. Don't swim if you see a RED flag here - the currents are dangerous. A purple flag means that there are jelly fish.

Highly recommend the Sunset Trip. Due to the terrain, it's a slow horseback trek so it's great for novices and beginners. Experienced riders are likely to find it unchallenging but still scenic.

A very small sandy beach. There tends to be a lot of seaweed here and the beach is only cleaned in high season (July / August). It's a pretty beach but as it's one of the furthest away tends to get less visitors than the other sandy beaches in the north.

The old capital of Malta, Mdina is commonly known as the Silent City as no cars are allowed here during the day except for residents. It's small and will take no more than 30 minutes to walk around. Visit Fontanella for Malta's most famous chocolate cake and great views. If you want something more upmarket, try Palazzo Piro.

Too famous for its Blue Lagoon, Comino is beautiful but best avoided at the weekend in July and August. To avoid the worst of it, try and get here at around 3 or 4 when most of the big tourist boats will be leaving. In off season, Comino is beautiful and tranquil. However, the ferry service in the winter months is weather dependent and occassionally doesn't run even in fine weather!

There's plenty to see in Gozo including Rabat / Victoria (the old and new capital), Dwejra and the inland sea, the Salt Pans, Marsalforn. Mgarr ix-Xini is more difficult to get to but pretty for swimming. Xlendi is one of the most popular bays for lunch. Culture lovers can visit the Temples or the Xola Windmill. For adventure lovers there are caves with stalagmites.

Hagar Qim and Mnajdra are, in my opinion, the best Temples to see on the islands of Malta and Gozo. The temple complex is the largest and is in the most scenic location. Combine this trip with a visit to the Blue Grotto which is best seen in the morning. The only reason for visiting the Blue Grotto is to take the boat to the grotto or for a bite to eat at one of the restaurants. The bus service is quite irregular.
