If you're interested in the less touristic mountains in the area, I could highly recommend the Glaubenberg. In summer as well as in winter time. Great for (easy) walks, langlauf and great view.

Bikes are available at the train station in Stans. Only 6 SFR for one day. You can't make a reservation, just have to stop by and see if one is available. It's a lovely way to get around town.
