There is a lot of history here. Churchill Island was the site of the first European garden in Victoria, when wheat and other crops were planted in 1801 by Lieutenant Grant with the help of a team of convicts. Later, in 1872, the property became the holiday home of a former Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Samuel Amess.

Woolamai is one of Victoria's premier surfing beaches. The lovely sands are a sight to see. At the back of the beach, there is a variety of walks around the cape, which is the highest point on the Island. The walking trails are up to 7 kms long, and take about three hours to complete. To get to the walks, park your car in the car park, then walk 1 km along the beach to the left. Beware of stepping on mutton bird (shearwater) nests as you walk around. The birds nest here before migrating to Alaska in the winter months.

Corinella was the site of the second unsuccessful colony in Victoria. It was founded after Hume and Hovell had indicated Westernport as the place for a village, the only problem was they meant to indicate Port Phillip Bay. There is a lot of history here.
