Food Scene

We have Sunday morning breakfast there quite often and discuss the latest soccer match with one of the owner brothers. Be careful, he supports FC Barcelona :)

Generous tapas, only local people, absolutely nothing fancy, but an honest bar and fairly priced local food

This is our favorite tapas bar in Madrid. The beautifully decorated pinchos (only 3 EUR each) start coming out at 8pm, which is also when the place starts filling up. To get a seat at the entrance near the bar, arrive around 8pm. Make a reservation if you want to sit in the small restaurant in the back from where you can see the chefs acting in the kitchen. They do great Gin Tonics and an award-winning cheesecake. Our favorite is the fresh truffles cheese... mmmm...

Parks & Nature

Go further South to enjoy a quiet walk in the rose garden, or to the Peacocks in the South Eastern part. Watch dancers, musicians, or puppeteers around the square lake where you can also rent paddle boats or cruise on an all solar powered boat. Watch your belongings though in the crowds that form on the weekends in this popular spot for families.

Sightseeing

One of the the top three art museums Madrid has to offer and our favourite. Rivals the Louvre in breadth of art and hosts many famous masterpieces. It is free each evening for the last 2 hours of the day, but otherwise costs EUR 15 per person.

Drinks & Nightlife

Rooftop bar overlooking the city and its most iconic palace, Cibelles. Not the cheapest spot for a drink and often fully booked in the summer, but worth a try if you are downtown.

Best Gin tonics downtown and nice background music. Small place to meet mostly locals.

Life Jazz jams by local artists, small place that fills up quickly once the music starts. Great place to jump in if you know how to play an instrument or sing well and feel like getting famous overnight :)
