I recommend taking walks in this area. It is beautiful and if you walk down from Munkkiniemi to Hietaniemi, you get a nice stretch of coast and architecture from different eras. One of my favourite areas for a stroll in Helsinki.

Kaivopuisto is one of the most famous parks in Helsinki, but not that there's anything too special about it. Like most parks of Helsinki, it offers grass, trees and cliffs. Here lies the Sibelius monument. It's ok, but I prefer just taking walks in the area around it. If you want to see the monument, I recommend you also take a around to dog-isle. It's for dogs to run wild on, but offers nice views of the surrounding area too.

MechelininkatuHere lies the Sibelius monument. It's ok, but I prefer just taking walks in the area around it. If you want to see the monument, I recommend you also take a around to dog-isle. It's for dogs to run wild on, but offers nice views of the surrounding area too.
When you live in a city all your life, it's sometimes hard to appreciate the obvious touristy parts of it. Suomenlinna is touristy, but at the same time it is one of a kind. There's no other place in Helsinki quite like it. It's worth a picnic on a sunny day. Just beware of the seagulls.
