Restaurant/Bar/Music Venue in a former factory building. A bit off the tourist track, and quite typical Zürich. More a summer option as most of the seats are outside, beside the lake. Interesting graffiti.

One of the most famous Cafés in the city – very fancy inside. According to my girlfriend has the best hot chocolate in the city. Just be careful you don't choke on the chocolate when you get the bill :-)

Cafe beside the river. More a summer place really - popular place to hang out, have a few drinks and go for a quick swim. You can also watch the amateur welders at the metal workshop next door :-)

Want to buy your sausage by the meter? Zeughauskeller is a restaurant in the old armory, just off Bahnhofstrasse. A beer and hearty food place which is definitely aimed at tourists, but all the tourists i've taken there have liked it a lot. I do too.

My favorite restaurant in Zürich. This Japanese place is excellent, you can find it just off Langstrasse (the main nightlife district in the city)

They do a good (if expensive) cocktail here, but the main reason to visit is that they have probably the best view of the city. Entrance is via a lift, which you access from inside the Brasserie Lipp.

Oldest bar in the city with plenty of old wood-panely charm. Very unique inside (upstairs is the place to go). If you're up for it, you can try their climbing/drinking challenge :-)

Hike up from Triemli (or take the S10 train) to the hotel Uto Kulm. Once up you have great views of the city and lake. From there you can also hike quite far along the ridge south.

Hint: Walk upstream to Dynamo Cafe....jump in the water....float back down to the wooden platform....get out....lie in the sun....repeat.
Don't go past the wooden platform, because death.
