There are several entrances to the Appalachian Trail, Lake Chatuge Recreation area hiking trails, Nantahala National Park/Jackrabbit Mtn hiking, fishing & beach, and others within a few minutes drive.
Trailheads within few minute drive. There should be a map in the white binder in the cabin to several entrances into the Appalachian Trail. Here is the websites:

Entrance to the Nantahala National Park/Jackrabbit Mountain hiking trail, fishing & beach is 3.6 miles from our place. Turn right onto NC Hwy 175, then right onto the bridge, then right at the sign Nantahala National Park/Jackrabbit Mountain. The first entrance off main road is hiking, 2nd fishing, 3rd public beach.

There are two casinos nearby: Harrah's in Cherokee is about an hour and a half drive. Harrah's in Murphy, NC is only 24 miles away. Cherokee has gourmet dining. Murphy has food court.
