Food Scene

Fantastic gastropub a few minutes walk away. It was started by the chef at Ned Ludd and the brewmaster at Upright, so the tap list is as solid as the burger.

Great coffee of the artisanal pour-over variety (espresso and tea as well). If you know your Finca el Injerto from your Yergacheffe, you'll love it here.

Best sushi in Portland, hands-down. Also the country's first MSC-certified sustainable sushi restaurant. A bit pricey, but the happy hour is a great deal, so show up early.

Maybe our favorite restaurant in all of Portland, and go-to special occasion destination. French technique crossed plus deep Chinese influences, with a PacNW bent. Hard to describe, but delicious.

Texas style barbecue -- definitely the best in town, and on par with some places I've been in Austin. Good brisket, excellent pork, amazing house-made smoked sausages. Brunch is secretly wonderful.

Nearest location of our beloved home-grown competitor to Whole Foods -- New Seasons is a bit cheaper, has way better produce, an in-house bakery, and the nicest employees ever. Worth the trip.

Drinks & Nightlife

The local go-to bar for cocktail nerds, with a very Portlandy aesthetic (lots of rustic wood and mustaches). Decent beer and simple, well-made food, but the mixed drinks are where it's at.

The local vegan bar (seriously -- the "meatballs", etc are all animal-free). Also just a great bar. Lots of outdoor seating, decent music, goofy art, fun (young, hipsterish) crowd, open late.
