Sightseeing
Great Brook is a lovely park of trails, a canoe launch, an active cranberry bog, and a dairy farm you can tour and then get ice cream and buy cranberries (in season). Catching a cranberry harvest is always special. If you keep an eye out you might see some wildlife including a beaver dam, or a Blanding's turtle.

Cranberry Bog Peninsula Trail is a 2.6 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Carlisle, Massachusetts that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, trail running, and nature trips.

Main Street Concord
The historic center of Concord is exactly what you’d expect from small town New England. Antique stores, a bookshop, cafés—in other words, my idea of heaven. Get lunch and wandered for a little while, but the town center is small enough to spend just over an hour exploring.

Lexington
While the first Revolutionary War battle took place in Concord, the skirmish began a few miles away in Lexington. At dawn, the Lexington militia faced down the Redcoats as they marched through town on their way to Concord. Shots were fired, a handful of rebels died, and the Redcoats continued on their march (things didn’t go their way in Concord and the rebel militias chased them all the way back to Boston).

Salem, Massachusetts for a day: Hidden gems and tasty tipples
Salem…the name itself conjures a wicked aura. For six months in 1692, the quaint village was the scene of the Witch Trials, a pretty terrifying cycle of fear-mongering and finger-pointing that had fatal consequences. When it was over, 27 people had died: 19 were hung, seven died languishing in jail, and one elderly man had stones stacked on his chest until the pressure killed him. They all maintained their innocence until the end, and they were pardoned the following year—but the damage was clearly done.
Shopping, Snacking, and Secret Gardens in Salem
If you want a hipstery Salem souvenir, Hauswitch is another essential stop. It is basically the local, mystical version of Urban Outfitters’ home department—you can buy healing crystals, tarot cards, tinctures and potions, and some pretty awesome girl-power stuff like this Smash the Patriarchy necklace. After your shopping, it’s only natural to stop a couple doors down for lunch at the Gulu Gulu cafe, a very cozy coffeehouse inspired by a Prague cafe of the same name. Everything I’ve eaten here is good, and the coffee is wonderful.
