Sandy Bay is indeed a very sandy beach, backed by high cliffs the beach is around a mile in length and set in what feels like a secluded bay. However, towards low tide the beach becomes a continuous stretch of sand reaching all the way to Exmouth nearly two miles away.

Seaside and sightseeing

The picture-postcard village of Beer, Devon nestles in Lyme Bay, on the 95-mile long Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site and forms part of the South West Coastal Path. The shingle beach still boasts a small fleet of working fishing boats and the surrounding picturesque white chalk cliffs provide a natural suntrap sheltering the cove from prevailing westerly winds. You can walk the cliff tops to Seaton or Branscombe.

The Devon village of Branscombe is found on the coast of Devon between Seaton and Sidmouth and is one of the most relaxing and picturesque villages on Jurassic Coastline. Believed to be the longest village in the country, the streets sweep down through the valley to the sea, lined with colourful cottages and thatched buildings. From Branscombe you can walk to Beer. In peak season the road down can be very busy and you may find you are reversing more than going forwards.

Lyme Regis is just across the Devon border into Dorset and one of my personal favourites. It is a pretty seaside resort, with beautiful beaches, breathtaking scenery and a fascinating history and picturesque harbour. On a clear day you can see more of the Jurassic coastline as far as Portland Bill.
