We walked down the Sett Valley Trail in the snow and had a wonderful warming lunch of vegetable balti. You don't have to be a vegetarian to enjoy food like this. and the coffee is excellent.

The walk through Millers Dale follows the course of an old railway line which, after its closure over 50 years ago became the Monsal Trail, a footpath and cycle route that runs through steep limestone gorges and beautiful river valleys all the way to Bakewell.

From the village the walk along the Sett Valley Trail takes you the three miles to New Mills and the gorge of the Torrs. The river Sett joins the Goyt here and all this water once powered the mills that gave this small town its name. You will also pass the Leisure Centre where there's a swimming pool and gym.

Chatsworth House is still the home of the Duke of Devonshire and his family. The house and gardens are magnificent and the surrounding parkland was landscaped by the famous Launcelot "Capability Brown". Picnic by the river, explore the wonderful gardens and visit the beautiful house. A great day out.
