Bright, cheerful decor complements truly exceptional food and drink. Think oysters, champagne, and low-octane cocktail options, with crusty local bread. Their sister restaurants next door offer other options: Bateau is a steak lover's dream, and General Porpoise gets you your bakery and coffee fix.

This ain't no Domino's. Say hi to our friend Joe (it's his place) and try the salume, the chevre and honey, and maybe a pizza with grana, soft egg, and speck? Or just pepperoni. Up to you! Walkable if you're up for a bit of a hike, in Madison Park, near the water.

This is the closest you'll get to the Yucatan in the Pacific Northwest. World-class dishes roasted over a huge open fire. Try the mussels with aji amarillo on Sea Wolf bread (best bakery in Seattle - it's next door). Or anything else. It's all amazing. And the cocktails all feel like a day on the beach with a bartender who actually knows the craft.

Drinks & Nightlife

Jamie Boudreau's Canon has two trophies from Tales of the Cocktail, the world's premiere cocktail gathering. So you know they're serious. Check out their spirits collections - it was voted the world's best. Really. Your bartender will be an expert at the craft - that's a given. The food's pretty good, too.

Southern-themed bar and restaurant with one of Seattle's strongest cocktail programs. Whatever Gregg and his amazing team have on the menu is worth trying. Join them Saturday nights at 10pm for the weekly (non-religious) "sermon", where Gregg rants about whatever he wants to rant about. Because it's his bar. Kids are allowed, too - just not behind the rail.

If organic and local is important to you, the Central Co-Op is a good alternative to the Trader Joe's and the Safeway that are almost the same distance to the house.

Shopping

Recreational marijuana is legal in Washington State for those who are 21+. If you're interested in partaking, please don't smoke in the apartment or near the day care next door. Uncle Ike's is probably the best pot store in the city. Bring your ID - it's a must - and talk with the budtender about what's right for you. Edibles, sodas / elixirs, and very cheap vapor pens for discreet indulgence also available. Cash only, but there are ATMs in store. Federal law prohibits transportation of cannabis products across the state line, so don't drive outside the state with it or add to the TSA's huge stash at the airport.

KEXP has been the sound of Seattle for a long time. And they've turned their studio space into a gathering space for the community. Go catch a tour, or just hang out, sip the best and froofiest coffee in town, and get some of that avocado toast you've been hearing about. Free wifi, too. Sometimes there's live music! But even when there's not, you can watch the DJ do his or her thing behind the glass while you're lounging.
