If you’re a nature lover, the Med Steps are definitely the best way to explore the local flora and fauna. There is nothing but nature around you and stunning views across the Mediterranean Sea, and there are a lot fewer tankers and ships on the eastern side than on the western one. Also, the rest of the Rock is reachable by cars, and taxi tours are very popular here. By taking the Med Steps you avoid any confrontation with the quite frequent tourist taxis and buses. This means that the air is cleaner on the Med Steps too J There is no need for you to take the Med Steps both ways. You can climb up the Med Steps and then get down via one of the entrances / exits to also enjoy the western side of the Rock of Gibraltar.

Mediterranean Steps is a path and nature trail in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. One of the footpaths of Gibraltar, the path is located entirely within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve and was built by the British military but is now used by civilians as a pedestrian route linking Martin's Path to Lord Airey's Battery near the summit of Rock of Gibraltar.

The views from the top of the rock are simply stunning on a clear day. You can look over the bay to Spain and across the Straits to Africa. You stand in one country and look out at another and a different continent, its fantastic.

It is a challenge a steep uphill climb - so you need to be fit and take water and wear trainers or hiking boots - but the views are second to none
