With Hair of the Dog, Alan Sprints became one of the first brewers in America to specialize in bottle-conditioned and barrel-aged beers: The brewery is currently home to 180 oak barrels used to age beer anywhere from six months to eight years. The now 27-year-old brewpub offers the largest selection of vintage bottles available in the country; plus, its curated draft list features high-octane old ales and barleywines as well as IPAs of varying strength. Visitors to the pub can also opt for rotating, in-house-only cask ales “from the wood” or “from the egg,” the latter being a 476 gallon egg-shaped concrete fermenter used commonly in wine production.
