Hans Christian Andersen's Museum NB This museum is closed while a new museum is built in its stead. In the meanwhile (from app. 20th January 2018) you can visit an exhibition in the former Carl Nielsen Museum, focusing on the artistic side of Andersen. Mindehallen i H.C. Andersens Hus In the historic quarter in Odense you can find Hans Christian Andersen's Birth Home. This building was converted into a museum already in 1908 and is one of the oldest writer/poet museums in the world. At the museum you can follow his life story from a poverty stricken childhood in Odense, through the initial trying times in Copenhagen, his debut as a writer and later illustrious career as well as get a glimpse of his friends, love life and many travels. The exhibition takes you back to the time from which Hans Christian Andersen's works originated: his time - from 1805 to 1875 - was filled with important events. You will get an introduction to Hans Christian Andersen, the person, his characteristic appearance and his mind. The poet's creative span is shown through his drawings and paper cuttings. And in the library you will get an impression of his extensive authorship and the global spread of his works. The museum has many modern facilities and you can explore Hans Christian Andersen's universe, leaf through his books online and listen to readings of his fairy tales at one of the listening posts.

Der er bygget et helt nyt vidunderligt H. C. Andersens Museum. Det skal I simpelthen se. A brand new wonderful H. C. Andersen Museum has been built. You simply have to see it.
